Hi! I tried to create a function for my countdown app but I encountered a problem when I tried to set a (global) variable which was passed as parameter 0.

Is there no way to set a variable by name (as string)? When I use the "Set Value" action I have a list of all variables but can't enter the name of the variable.

No, not possible. In this cases I normally use RexRainbows HashPlugin and save it there. (But Dictionary may work as well)
