Snap to visible grid - perfect solution for any game genre
  • Hi, as the title says. It would be nice to have some rulers & guides available along with an adjustable grid for the design side of C2.

  • I don't know about a visible grid, but you can turn on the snap-to behavior and set the number of pixels to snap-to to get the same type of behavior just without the visible marks. Any object you click and drag to position will automatically snap to the grid based on the pixel size you chose...

  • spongehammer - one easy way to make a grid is to create a tiled background, set the size to the pixels you want the grid to be (e.g. 32x32) and draw black lines around the edges. Stretch the tiled grid to match your layout, put it on the bottom layer (or it's own layer), and turn off initial visibility. You can add numbers or measurements to the squares to act as a ruler, as well.

I have tried the snap to grid but its not exactly what i want. Sometimes a simple guide line would be better as it could be placed anywhere rather than at a set grid location.

    Will give that a go, thanks <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

I have just had a thought. I could design a ruler and import it as a sprite then it could just be dragged around as i need it.

Brilliant! :) Sometimes it's better to find innovative solutions that wait for someone to do it for you, ya know? You can call it the "spongehammer toolbox", as weird as it sounds.

  • Ha yeah it does sound weird <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

I did this... open photoshop, display rulers, use the snipping tool or any capture tool to capture the rulers, import them as a sprite works great. Horizontal and vertical.

  • I wanted to suggest features: guides and rulers for c2/c3.. did a search and this thread came up, so posting here.

Guides would be uses for aligning objects, and rulers useful for measuring. At moment there is no simple way to do this.
