  • So I just finished the tutorial for complete beginners to Construct 2! Yay! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> Now I know how the interface works, how the event sheets are laid out, and stuff like that.

    But now I'm stuck.

    Normally, someone may go back to the tutorial page and complete another tutorial, but I feel like I'll just fall into an infinite paradox of tutorials because I don't really know what I want to create; I'll get an incentive of "omg I must complete ALL the tutorials and become a Construct 2 master so I can make ANYTHING MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!1!" And if I do complete all of the Construct 2 tutorials, I might end up like "ok I can make anything! what should I make? uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..."

    Long story short: I finished the first tutorial and I am hesitant to make my next move. What SHOULD be my next move?

  • Read the manual. Far too many people skip this step and get stuck right away.

  • I honestly have to say I would do a few more tutorials. The main ones that I would get through are the space shooter, ghost shooter (maybe you already did that one) and the platforming tutorials.

    The next thing is go play some games that you like and let them inspire you on what you want to make. Starting with a platformer is a pretty good platform. The tutorials on it will get you up and running on having multiple animations for your sprites, working with different types of objects (Solid, Tiled, etc...) platform behaviors.

    You may also want to look at some of the physics tutorials. Basically for me it was a matter of going through about 10 tutorials which really allowed my mind to start thinking about how I would apply some of the techniques and that is what inspired me for what types of games I wanted to make first.

  • Yeah, the manual, tutorials, and the example projects when you go to new project in construct 2. They have lots of great examples that you can build off of.

  • Personally, I think you should dive right in to making a game!

    Think of a good idea, then, research (or ask the forum for opinions) on how difficult it would be to make that sort of game, and then just...go fot it! When you run into problems, take a peek at the manual, and if that fails, ask here again, or keep trying to figure it out. Never give up!

    Ofcourse, thinking "I WANNA MAKE A MMORPG WITH REALLY COMPLICATED SYSTEMS AND WOAOWHOH" is gonna be difficult to dive into, but...well...do what you want, really! You're only limited by your own imagination; there's always a way to create a 2D game in C2!

  • Reading the whole manual at this point might be a bit boring. It's designed more as reference. I'd also suggest you either dive right in, or read the other beginner's tutorial (How to build a platform game)

    Ok, I will so take your advice after seeing that game you linked at the bottom of your post. <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
