  • Ive got 2 projects I want to merge and its not really workin out. I open both and then move/copy all the stuff from one to the other and it works fine until I close the project I was copyin from then it crashes c2 when I try to edit the event sheets

  • If Construct 2 crashes, can you write up the steps to reproduce it and post it to the bugs forum? Thanks!

  • I was under the impression you have to save each project as a project (not .capx) then merge the folders, not copy/paste everything from one project to another inside C2.

  • Does that actually work Tokinsom?

  • In theory. Long ago Ashley mentioned doing that to make collaboration amongst teams easier. I have yet to actually try it, though.

  • I tried it last night it didnt work. I copied over all the files from one to the other and it opens fine in c2 but none of the copied stuff is there. Its all there physically in the folders but none of it appears in c2

  • anyone figure out how to do this?

Ive been trying to do the same thing

but have not been successful as of yet

any and all help would be greatly appreciate

  • You should be able to copy and paste all the objects first (from the layout), then all the events afterwards. (Don't try to copy/paste events if the target project doesn't yet have all the objects referenced by the events.)

  • awesome.

    THANKS SO MUCH Ashley

    I'll give it a go

    btw...INCREDIBLE software

I recently came upon your software and am making my very first game

I do animation for a living

& had no idea that this level of user-friendliness for making games existed.

It is so exciting to have a tool friendly enough for us non-coders! (?)

    That coupled with great support

and the awesome user community you have fostered here

Im continually wowed by C2's future potential

my humble & sincerest thank-you's to you & your team

  • it WORKED! whoohoo!! (?)

    many thanks again

for those who may be running into the same issues

heres the sequence of what worked for me:

    1. Create New Layouts in the Project you want to merge into.

These will be your duplicate layouts from the project your merging from

(i was unsuccessful with simply dragging them over from one project to the other)

    2. copy/paste your objects FROM the LAYOUTS FIRST as Ashley indicated.

    3. be sure to create objects like mouse, audio, as well as sounds & music (they cannnot be copied by simply selecting the objects from the Layout)

    3. Create New Event Sheets in the project you want to copy over to.

    4. copy/paste the events to the NEW event sheets you just created.

    5. cross your fingers & RUN your new Layouts/Events.

  • thanks....it worked for me too !!

Awesome, btw sounds are automagically? copied

  • Well ... I never got issues with this one , just be sure to copy every object to the other layout ... and then it's easy ...

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Ashley I am getting a "Failed to paste: the data on the clipboard does not appear to be valid." error.

I Ctrl -A on one one layout in a different project and then I ctrl-v paste it into my other project. Error.

C2 needs a merge function urgently otherwise it is very difficult to collaborate with other developers.

We need some development functions that make it easier to create and maintain projects.

  • Ashley I figured it out.

If you copy and paste an object that also appears in both layouts you get the error.

    Also layers are not presevred.

    Please make a merge function.

I tried even merging by hand copying the XML across etc that did not work either.
