4 little things for better usability

Platform HTML5 game, where the little Dinosaur must cross the forest, desert and snow forest.
  • 1. Zoom.

    Could be more uniform: 100%,125%,150%...

    now is more like: 100%, 110%, 121%, 133% - using mouse scroll

And it's impossible to set ie. 200% zoom.

    2. Point sampling in the layout editor.

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34375299/layout.png" border="0" />

Print screen from layout editor at 560% zoom.

Besides marked spots there's also blue fringe in the door frame between light grey and dark grey - blue is the color of the background behind the door.

It's really annoying to place sprites in correct places on 1920x1080 monitor resolution with 500% zoom while your project is 320x240 and your sprites are max 20x20 pixels size

    3. Keyboard shortcut to switch between layout editor and event sheet editor for current layout.

You can press RMB and select "Edit event sheet" from context menu in layout editor, and it's nice but there's no way to go back from event sheet to editor quickly.

    4. Objects list while ading new event

In the Event sheets when you click add new event it displays the list of all the objects in the project - it's handy when you editing independent event sheet to be included to specific layout.

But while working on a Layout with it's own event sheet and have only 5 objects on that layout I think the list should be shortened to show that 5 objects only (5 object mean 5 sprites + all other system objects like Mouse, Keyboard etc). Again, it's annoying trying to find one specific object placed on current layout on the list, when you have 50+ object shown from entire project not related to that layout.

  • Good ideas. Will try to work them all in to a future build.

  • I'd like also to be able to domore than just horizontal scrollings

When i try to make a vertical scrolling ,it's seems impossible

I mean that the project dimensions and setting doesnt move ,so we have only optionto build a level where the hero begins at the top/left

It would be great if we can move the layout around, or i didnt found yet.

  • You can increase the layout margins in the layer properties to scroll further up and left. You'll need to turn on unbounded scrolling, though, for it to work at runtime.

  • When i try to make a vertical scrolling ,it's seems impossible

I'm not sure what you mean - vertical scrolling works exactly the same as horizontal scrolling, just in a different direction. Have you had a look at the Space Blaster project? That's a game where you start at the bottom, and scroll up to the top of the layout.

  • 5. Last sub-events on the list can't be turned to a regular event.

If you got a bunch of events and the last one of them contains a sub-event, then that sub-event can't be turned/dragged into a normal event. You can easly dragg sub-events from the middle of the list but if it's the last position on the list you can only copy and paste it to transform from sub-event to event.

I'm sorry for useing too many "event" word ;)

  • -First it would be nice if the starting position of the window in the layout (dashed rectangle) could be dragged somehow and also set through Layout Properties.

-"Undo" is listed two times in the shortcuts window, and "Current Keys" for "Undo" and "Redo" are not shown.

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7871870/construct/interface-02.jpg" border="0" />

This successive layers of windows to edit the shortcuts are a little bizarre. Also if I set the shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+Z" to Redo and try to use it C2 crashes.

-The "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" should be achievable through the "Preferences" button, since it is the most expectable place to be found. Actually everything could be grouped into one "Preferences" window with tabs, like so:

  • Hey Ashley would it be possible to add only one thing from my list for next release?

Point nr 4 to be specific.

Displaying objects in folder - like they are in Projects list tab will be sufficient too.

  • Oops, I'm realizing now I had overseen this post and PMed him about the same thing a couple of days ago.

    Answer :

vent/action window: we've got improvements planned, just a very long todo list.

It might not be in the next release, but it is planned and will be integrated at some point in future releases.

  • Good to know. Thanks for the info Kyatric.

  • 3 of 4 features added, I was hoping You could add that in next few months but never suspect that in r55!

Thanks Ashley, after 15 minutes i can feel my workflow gets faster and more precise!

  • Well, to be honest, those weren't really the 3 most complicated things in the world to do! :)

  • You just ruined the moment ;P

heh anyway, those 3 simple things (and layer opacity settings expansion) improved C2 in a significant way. At least for me :)

  • Try Construct 3

  • I think I might be experiencing a problem similar to airman4's. I can set the main sprite's position to the right of the starting window (the dotted lines), and it's fine. But if I move him to a position below the dotted lines, he glitches upward at the start of the preview, so that his Y matches the bottom of the starting window.

Is there a way to define the layout's starting position with events, so I can start the layout from somewhere other than the top left?

  • yes, You can use scroll to X/Y at the start of the layout in events
