Free edition of Construct 2 and commercial use?

Will I be able to use the free edition of Construct 2 for commercial use?

How would the creators make any money if the free edition could be used commercially? I would think that if you intend to commercialize a product, you would need the commercial license.

No, the free edition won't be for commercial use. If you're making money from using Construct 2 though, why not buy a license?! :P

According to the page you need the standard edition to release commercially, and the business version if you make more than $5000 with your game.

You can release commercially with the Standard edition, then just upgrade to the business license once you've made $5000 (which would be a pretty good point to have reached, right?). What's wrong with that?

I don't get it. I mean, how much enjoyment has both CC and C2 provided? Much more than a standard game would give. So paying a measly 20 quid to support these guys should be a no-brainer.

That 100 events limit...kinda harsh.

The Space Blaster demo is only 70 events, and that's a reasonably complex game with some effects and such. You could go even further than that with the free edition. I think it's reasonable since you can make games like that in it, it's not some simple toy game!

Yes, but it would be relatively easy to go beyond 100 event's in a simple toy game. Plus Im not saying another license should be free.

I don't think there's a good reason to get the free edition when Construct Classic has none of its limitations. At this point, I don't see anything that C2's done differently from CC, aside from an extremely shiny new interface and a plethora of not-yet-included features - in other words, why will the consumer want to buy this over Construct Classic?

TheBen: how about getting your game to run in a browser, and also on Mac, Linux, iOS, Android etc?

Also, portability. You can code from a USB stick with C2.

You have the opportunity to say your 2c on features as they're developed. Ashley & Co have proven very responsive to the community's input.
