Should I buy Construct 2 now?

I am looking to buy a Construct 2 license, but I am afraid that there might be a sale soon/Construct 3 might come out soon, even though I've heard its not close. Should I buy it now or wait a couple weeks to see if there's gonna be a sale?

Construct 3 won't be out for a while.

Not sure about sales though.

Noone will tell you if there is a sale, cause of the simple reason that everyone would wait which will cost Scirra money

Oy, that guy just had to make that C3 thread...Ashley should probably make a blog post clearing things up. It's just a new editor, wont be out for quite a while / likely is not even in the works right now, and will probably come with a discounted upgrade from C2. So yeah, go ahead and buy C2 if you want.

For some reason, people seem to think that C3 is coming out in a couple of months. In my interview with Ashley, I asked him "2015? 2016?" and he couldn't even tell. So let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's not going to be here for a while.

By the time it comes out, if you buy C2 now, you'll have time to get a good grasp on how games are made (with C2 and in general) and it will only benefit your potential C3 experience.

If you have not used the free version, try that first.

Otherwise construct is a great purchase. I would imagine anything you learn with construct 2 should apply to 3.

Also, this is a stable and feature filled engine. Even if 3 came out tomorrow, construct 2 would probably be at an advantage/offer more than 3 would for some time.

In game development you need something stable and reliable. Waiting for a brand new engine is not the best idea typically.

Construct 2 also has many plugins, something that a new engine will need time to implement.

TLDR: Construct 2 is still a good purchase.

I did have a similar thought about 3 weeks ago, but took the plunge and purchased a license. It was the best thing that I have done in a long time.

Great! And yes, I did try the Free version for quite some time now, and I am now needing the features from the full, so I'll probably be buying it this weekend. Woo!

Construct 3 will *not* be coming out soon. It's in our multi-year plan. It's not going to come out tomorrow

People often ask about sales, but we can't say in advance when we run them. Sometimes people get upset if they buy just before a sale, but then if we announce sales in advance, people will just be upset that they bought just before the sale announcement instead. I don't think there's anything we can do about that.
