  • drmidnight I like your Mono theme a lot, thanks for sharing!

  • Oh, nevermind, just saw the other topic about particles angles. It can't be done, I'll find another way, no problem.

And I'm sure I'll find this shadow thing by myself, I shouldn't ask too soon, let's search a bit more.

This topic can be closed if someone want to :)

Thanks again everyone! Wish you the best for your games!

  • Yeah, I'm a huge fan of GMS, but the more I use C2, the more I love it even more :)

It's so easy and joyful to develop with, I'm having a very great time.

Thanks again thehorseman007 and onzephyr for your advices.

I think there will be no turning back to GMS, even if I own and paid all of the exports packs.

That said, as a beginner in C2, I'm a bit confused on how to do the 2 followings things I easily made in GMS.

    Any pro-user hint welcomed :)

Particles angle: I know how to set the angle of the particle emiter, but I'm looking for a way to set the image angle for each part (so, not the spray, the images in the spray).

I got glowing strokes for the trail of my ship, and I can't figure how to orient the parts at their creation so it looks clean.

Automatic dropped shadows: I'm looking for a way to create shadows of my top view road on the sublayer for a great depth effect.

I tried a lot of things, but I can't figure how each instance can create their specific shadow at start, each at their own position +n and angle.

Well, I guess it means I suck at create events for now ^^!

    (for now...)

  • Onzephyr, you know you're like an gamedev angel for me right now, you know that?

I've been playing with C2 all day, and I'm really thinking about recreating my game in C2 to finish it. (I'm 50% in dev, 7 months, but I can re-import all the assets in C2). That's a huge waste of time, but it could worth the effort as I look to all the C2 strenghts and how quick I progress here.

Tried to add my core gameplay, works like a charm in 2 hours.

Added gamepad support, works like a charm.

Particles effects and shaders, 1 hour, works like a charm.

And I don't mention parralax, that was effortless. I figured the GUI thing already because of that.

The whole IDE is brilliant, just brilliant.

For now, regarding the events, I feel like everything easy in GMS will be much quicker in C2, but complex conditions will be a bit harder to handle. As you said. We'll see if I miss GML too much. Maybe, but for now, I don't think so.

I miss my paths, too, but waypoints should do the trick, I found one pretty good example on this forum.

I mostly have to stop searching for begin step / end step, and it should be fine. And understand how to make solid controllers.

If I read you well, my mains controllers have to be a kind of "permanent" sheets. Or do I have to add it manually to each level?

Anyway, you've done enough for me, I will figure it out anyway if it's as well made as the other C2 features.

Thanks again, and again, the transition is very smooth thanks to you.

Heart symbol with my fingers and everyting.

    BONUS !

    No crash today! ;)

  • Hi Ashley, Congratulations for making this incredible tool. It's a blast to play with.

I don't know if what I'm writing is relevant, because it's my first construct2 day, but yes, same here, the event sheets can be slow, then even slower, then crash. I had it several times this night on the Steam version, when browsing rich examples with a lot of assets / events in it.

That said, no crash today on smaller ones.

Again, I don't know if it's useful or not, I'm answering to be polite, but I'm sure confirmed users are way more relevant.

  • Ok, glad to know :)

Well, time to play with the new toy then!

Thanks guys for all this great feedback, it's very nice to be welcomed like that.

  • Oh man, your post is beautiful. You were in my mind, and answered everything I needed to know!

Thanks a billion for your time. And for THAT PRETTY WALL. :)

One last question if you don't mind, can you flush the memory with C2? I mean, how do you handle textures loadings/unloads? You can say at the end of a layout "delete textures" and it will automaticaly load the needed next ones?

    BONUS!

" 19. C2 IDE is less stable then GMS IDE. " Yeaaaah, I've seen that! Four IDE crashes in one night! Ol?!

  • Thanks Ghost and Guif0DA,

I'm now making the ghost chaser tutorial. I'm amazed by how the interface is well done. I feel at home right from the start.

Then I will try to add way too much effects, particles, fat sprites with alpha gradients and camera scrolls, to get an idea of the software limitations.

Thanks again, I'm glad you took to time to answer me, much appreciated :)

  • Thanks to your post, I just bought a personal license to test the desktop export.

Looks very solid, I'm very excited to be honest!

Thanks again! Any other advice (on perfs or about switching from another dev tool) welcome!

  • Hi everyone, I'm a new member here, and I hope my question is not too much to ask. Or stupid. Or something wrong. Anyway, please forgive my bad english and me if it is <img src="smileys/smiley12.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

I work in the videogame industry for quite some time as a graphic artist, and one year ago, I decided to switch to indie dev, and make a game in Game Maker Studio (code, art, music). I love it, the script language is great and very powerful, but when dealing with shaders, sound, or even controlers, it can be a pain in th* ***.

For a few weeks now, I'm looking at Construct 2, and damn, it looks super sexy. I tried the free version tonight, and the effects presets just rock. All pannels seem very intuitive, and fresh.

So, before thinking about a full switch, I'd like to ask to you, pro C2 users, what is right or wrong in the things bellow?

    • C2 is powerfull enough to get a full HD game to run if I export it to PC desktop, with 60 fps, additive blending, some particles and shaders effects in it.
    • C2 can export to Mac, but not Linux. (or?)
    • iOS and Android exports are not reliable for the next months. It can be done, but it's dangerous because of old third party tech.

Mobile dev is not a dealbreaker for me, my main usage would be the desktop exporter.

Thanks A LOT for your time, wish you the best!

    Aurel.
