  • Hello fellow C2'ers

I am having a hard time making ropes/chains/pipes that are connected at both ends to create a dynamic dangling effect.

Here is a crude screenshot of a boss I am working on for Robot 505 to help illustrate what I am trying to accomplish.

I have gone through the C2 examples on ropes, along with looking into chipmunk physics, and built in C2 physics to achieve this.

I am able to create a rope(s), using any of the above mentioned methods, but making a rope connected at both ends has been an issue. Any direction on this would be fantastic.

    Thanks

  • I've been working on some weapons lately, mostly stuff like this...

There will be a new build up soon. I just have to tinker with a few more things and get them fun to play with, but it won't be until after the Easter weekend.

Sweet effect! Is the particle implode before firing animation an animation, or particle effect?

Just a quick update on some added obstacles. I added conveyor belts which can be used to your advantage or disadvantage.

And I added some deadly one hit spikes.

  • Thanks a lot Mattrix ! I really appreciate it. I'm glad that my game is in inspiring.

Seems you have everything in place for a nice game. How far can you go and how many coins can you collect on the way. Add a high score board, tweak your HUD graphics and bam! You have a game.

For me I built numerous prototypes with no real direction I just wanted to make something. Somethings were cool, some were lame. When I began with Robot 505, I had played around with creating some simple gun mechanics, for fun and with no game in mind. From there on it grew and grew.

In any event I like what you got so far.

I will posting here first with a playable alpha demo soon...

  • Will do! Iolva The Scirra forums (here) is where I will post the alpha demo when I'm ready for feedback

Thanks atomoso and no worries I use Gifcam for my quick and simple gifs. Great tool!

It lacks in frame rate speed (max is 33 fps) which kinda sucks for the lengthier and faster exports, tends to make them look choppy. Which in most cases is fine unless you want to show smooth movement.

  • Thanks ! I've been spending a lot of time on the UI. It's hard sometimes cause what makes sense to me may not always translate to the player.

Thanks a lot It means a lot

  • Looking really good !

It looks like your upgrade screen is just an overlay. I was curious, will you have the game pause while the menu is up or will the game still run behind the menu?

It's a separate screen, but is setup for the ability to overlay... Though, at the moment, upgrades can only be applied at the end of a level after scoring screen. Basically it checks to see if you collected an upgrade after scoring (at the moment this happens after 5 levels and 5 item collections) If you have an upgrade point, than you are taken to upgrades screen - where you can apply and remove upgrade points per weapon you have collected. OR If you want it to be insanely hard, you could skip upgrades all together.

I have been toying with the idea of making it accessible via the pause menu, but it's too early to tell how it will all flow without having actual levels laid out.

  • I really wish there would be support for animated tilemaps.

I'm a sucker for anything retro. So I dig it

I'm pretty sure there is a plugin for animated tile-able backgrounds which my help out for what I assume would be needed in animated tilemaps (the waterfall) I can't seem to find it at the moment....

but there is this which emulates animation within the tile map...

    May be of some help.

  • Let me know if the missile explosion is a little much. I keep going back and forth with the opacity on it.

I really like the missiles overall. I like the explosions cause they fit the overall aesthetics of the game thus far. Keep it up!

  • Thank you MtnHermit !

    Thanks a lot! atomoso

I really appreciate all the kind words. Helps keep me motivated on the game.

Here's an animated gif of cycling through the weapons upgrade screen. As you scroll through all of the weapons, it checks an array for the weapons I created to see if you have the current selected weapon or not. If so the level of upgrades is displayed, and you can than apply an upgrade to that weapon. If you have not collected the weapon, a message “NOT COLLECTED” is displayed.
