  • Yeah, I've had to ctrl-z like literally a hundred times in a row before and C2's huge memory has saved me. Thanks for that, by the way Ashley

  • You never know, could be a small bug somewhere preventing it from running as it should natively in chrome.

  • Wow, Amplitude has a really cool community development style. Looks like a cool studio, and endless space looks fun, too.

Yeah I hate using the same word multiple times myself.

My suggestions haven't ever taken hold either, but others have had some success!

Any new games up and coming from you?

  • Read this.

If that doesn't answer your question, read this.

And as another resources, perhaps you will find this to be helpful.

  • ^Ashley's rapid response; my tl;dr version:

I've noticed a few times people have posted really good 'my list of suggestions' threads in places like the 'general' or 'how do I' board, but have been lost in the traffic. It's a shame because there are some really good ideas in them. There's a few little things I'd like to recommend too.

It would also be useful for finding items that Ashley has already added to his TODO list. I made a post last night asking about a certain feature only to find out later the suggestion had already been made. Having a 'Added TODO' sub-forum similar to the bugs 'closed' sub-forum might cut down on the amount of messages Ashley has to respond to.

To go one step further, moving threads to one of three sub-forums might be handy - One for 'Will add', one for 'considering' and 'Cannot/Will not add'. It would be very easy for forum users to find and link back to those threads when new people arrive on the forums. I feel like it would organize the community a bit more.

Has a suggestion forum been suggested before? Also, that word is slowly losing all meaning...

All of the "suggestion" requests are just as easy to find in the forum search as they would be if there were a new area to put them. It would be unlikely that you would have found that your suggestion had previously been made any more easily with the resources you request than with the resources you currently have.

Likewise, good "suggestion threads" receive a lot of attention. And if the thread does manage to get sent off page with no responses, there are plenty of thread users who check the "unanswered" threads to ensure everything has received adequate attention. In the rare occasion that a thread goes by without receiving its due, it appears to be completely acceptable to bump it once. I have seen threads have great success after being bumped. And don't think that Ashley and Tom aren't present here, they very likely see everything and take note of interesting ideas and suggestions.

It's not that I think your idea isn't a good one, it's more that I think it would just add additional work for Ashley and Tom, as opposed to simplifying anything, as you feel it may. Of course, I could be mistaken. However, given the general nature of the "general" forum, it is expected that a wide variety of subjects would be covered here. The forum tends to be quite active, but doesn't often move at a rate that sends things out of mind and sight prior to getting attention. And of course, as noted, the almighty single bump is the backup to that.

So yeah, I suppose ultimately I would be surprised if something like this were to occur. I think the general forum is adequate for this type of feedback. And of course the chat is always there, which has helped me a number of times, as well.

No idea what you mean by "that word" slowly losing all meaning.

  • I do agree they should consider a third C2 programmer, as the backlog keeps stacking. But they are doing more than the best they can. So the problem is C2 is entirely html 5 based, and that is built on internet browsing. If their was a way to export to a better framework for mobile like lua or c++, but that seems intensely complicated. I wander how unity handles it so well...

Unity, if I recall correctly, has 1000+ employees, along with major game industry agreements and joint ventures. It's a completely different world.

While C2 is the single greatest 2D html5 gamemaking software, it would of course be nice to turn that title into "the single greatest 2D gamemaking [and application .. ] software." While it may already be enroute to holding that title, and perhaps already does in terms of ease of use and accessibility (and perhaps developer enjoyment), I agree that an additional C2 developer would be a tremendous resource. Actually, I think that Ashley, Tom, and Paulo would benefit most with the addition of 2 developers; one to help with general development, and another to focus on native exporters. Ashley already wrote a blog entry detailing how C2's design allows for new exporters to be built in without having to touch the editor. Unfortunately, he also has already made clear that the financial resources simply aren't there, for now, to bring new members on board.

There are two important aspects to keep in mind when considering this perspective. One, adding new members to the Scirra team could drastically change both the atmosphere enjoyed by Tom and Ashley, as well as the relatively intimate relationship that we customers enjoy. They are two brothers working together on a software that they love. Adding new developers could really change their business environment.

Two, to some extent, there are already many developers working with Tom and Ashley to build new exporters for C2, as well as a community that is uncannily apt towards expanding the software themselves. This is something I feel is special about Scirra and C2, and I'm not sure that risking a change for the sake of more rapid expansion is really the right answer.

That being said, it would be really awesome to have additional native exporters built for C2. But my guess is that this won't occur until the software is fully matured, such that such a tool wouldn't require constant modification with each new release. A shame for us and them, perhaps, but with so much already here for us, and new things coming out each week, its probably still much more than what you hoped for, but not yet what you dream of.

  • I also just got my first game approved from apple late last night and it's available on the appstore.

This game is pretty simple so I was able to use PhoneGap with the LowLatency Plugin for phonegap. Compiled everything with Xcode so I was able to include iAds as well.

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/word-search-4-kids/id564990078?ls=1&mt=8

Already my game as made more on the Apple App Store in ad views in 8 hours than the same game has on Google Play running AdMob for the last week. Just an FYI.

You didn't make that with an unregistered version of C2 though, I imagine. 20 levels, only 100 events? Unlikely.

  • Haha, love the stark contrast of opinions. I'll throw my two cents into the pile after I get a chance to see it.

  • Sounds cool, I wouldn't be surprised (but would be happy <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />) if this is implemented in the [near] future.

  • Great resource, thanks Kyatric!
