  • I'm trying to create a feature where users can record audio which can be later played back. I've looked around but all results are a few years old.

I own C2 license and would like to buy C3 but in a few months. I wanted to know if the offer for C2 license holders will be available always or is there a time restriction to that?

  • I tried this and it stabilizes the camera but I still need the camera to move in the Y axis as the player moves around the layout, just not when its merely jumping (unless jumping on a ledge or a higher level platform).

I've been using the second line code.

  • I'm using the system scroll to smooth scroll as the player moves. The horizontal movement of the camera is flawless.

The problem is when the player jumps the camera jumps with it which is a bit jarring. I can't disable the scrolly because the platforms are laid in various levels across the Y axis and the camera should follow the player when the Y position changes significantly.

I've seen a few games where the camera doesn't move vertically when the player jumps but follows as the player moves up and down the y-axis.

Is there any way to do both smooth scrolling and limiting the camera's Y movement when the player jumps but letting it move as the player moves up and down.

I hope I'm making this clear.

It worked amazingly. I finally get why this was happening. Thank you so much.

  • I'm trying to create a sequential platform where when the character jumps on the first platform, the second appears and when it jumps on the second the third and so on.

For that, I had to create a separate 'Helper' sprite that checks when the character is overlapping and create(enables) the next platform.

The problem is that the player can skip a platform and jump on forward and the next platform would show up.

To counter this I thought I can add a variable that activates the second platform's 'Helper' when the player hits the first platform and so on.

The boolean way didn't work (and hasn't worked for the entire project for some reason) so I had to resort to creating a number variable that goes 0 or 1.

But the system still doesn't work. The first part of the code executes properly but it doesn't change the value of the other picked instance. I had similar issues in the past. Now I'm thinking that if the condition has an instance of a sprite and the nested conditions have another instance of the same sprite it doesn't work.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I hope I was clear, even though I'm a bit confused as this has been a continuous issue in the entire project.

I tried GM2, not happy with the editor. I read some development blogs for F3, it's looking quite good. I'll definitely look into that.

  • I have a similar feeling. I'm not against the pricing and the devs have plans to offer a desktop version later, but yeah, even though I like the features announced up till now, I was hoping for some advanced features (timelines, empty game object, parenting, etc.)

After praising C2 and trying to shove it to friends and employers, I feel I cannot stand behind it for much longer. I've actively started looking for a replacement. Not Unity but something similar, like Godot and Superpowers. I really really like the event editor and I don't think I can ever find a replacement for that.

I will no doubt buy the first year though to see where C2 is heading.

I do agree that if the event editor was a separate scripting language plugin it could be a popular alternative to something like blocky.

I have one model in mind:

$99 yearly subscription but we get a standalone software (even if it's just a browser wrapped).

Every last day of each month we get a standalone version for last updated release.

After a year users can choose to continue with the subscription or wait for more features and updates.

If the user doesn't re-subscribe he/she at least has the last updated version for which he/she paid for.

The main problem here (at least for me) is renting instead of owning. If I stop subscribing at should at least have ownership of the software for which I paid for. This can happen if we have standalone versions (even if they are just a browser wrapped versions) as Tom and Ashley have said that implementing something similar online will be difficult.

And if the online subscription model is introduced to curb piracy, well it's hard to argue on that level but it would mean disappointing a lot of loyal and legitimate users.

  • Thank you so much for the effort.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

I don't mind paying a subscription if C3 has enough new features but only when the standalone executable is available. Also, this will help the team develop great new feature (like timelines, sprite lighting, etc.) and more specifically, small details that speed up the workflow (Shortcuts and automation).

I'll wait for the whole information cycle detailing all the new features. I don't want to pay a subscription for what is seeming to be C2 on cloud.
