  • I dont think anybody ever actually said the tech demos were crap because they weren't made specifically in MMF2 - I think this is in danger of spilling over in to a dumb argument, so preemptive lock on this one.

  • Is there always one object2 attached to an object1? If so, containers will do the job. Otherwise, if you explain what you're trying to achieve a bit more, we could come up with a bit more of a specific way to help you...

  • As in the documentation for the Directsound object, you need to use 'Play music' for MP3 files. Other actions only support PCM WAV files. Secondly, the filename is "Title.mp3", not "Title". Finally, since 'Play music' rewinds to the beginning of the track and starts playing it, you will want to play the music on Start of layout, otherwise you rewind and replay the track every time the screen draws!

    Definitely. The aim of the tech demos is to demonstrate their technical features - not particularly their creative features, which is generally what makes a game fun. Perhaps it could be argued other games are not as technically advanced, but it would be crude to lump this in to overall better or worse. These new technical features could be applied in creative ways to games to make them more exciting or immersive (which I suppose SircatmaN might have been trying to get at), but as we've said, nobody's really working on big games at the moment. I expect that to change at 1.0.

  • You're probably trying to play a nonexistent file. Did you get the filename right?

  • It's on the todo list - at the moment the Layout object can't show a portion of the same layout. I guess this would be a kind of Viewport object - I should be able to make it able to show offscreen parts of the layout too, with custom scaling and rotating, which would be pretty cool... It's a good idea, and would allow splitscreen too.

  • It's true nobody has really finished any games yet, and that's probably also because while we're in beta emphasis is on developing Construct - fixing bugs, reporting issues, coming up with feature ideas and such, and as Rich pointed out there are known file corruption bugs we still need to fix.

    The only problem I have with construct is coming here and seeing, "zomg mmf2 is crap" and whatnot.

    An opinion about MMF2 is the opinion of an individual. How is that a problem with Scirra or the Construct program? It's not. It's certainly not my opinion, and I doubt it's the opinion of the majority of people here. So please - don't upset yourself by generalising the opinions of a single person to an entire site! I don't think anybody's even explicitly said that.

  • manontherun is probably right, the debate threads are mostly a waste of time - at least the latest one is civil! Remember the rules. Most of what I read in such threads involve people stating something incorrect, not being challenged, then using it as weight in the argument, so no point wading in there.
