  • is that even practical to use Construct 2 as a Reference for Game Maker

like translating construct 2 code into game maker manually?

That seems to be impossible unless GameMaker decides to program/reprogram their engine that can be able to convert C2 project files into their own but that is unlikely considering that the 2 engines have the same purpose, to make 2D games and for that to happen Scirra will have to share their program code so that GameMaker Team will have a blueprint of the idea but in the marketing world, no one would share their program code or product design to a competition.

  • I also use Lightworks. It's like a paid program, only it is free.

  • TheRealDannyyy - Have you tried opening a big project with C2 r229? I get a lot of errors and very significant lag & slowness on projects with a lot of objects on r229 but fast on r228.

  • Problem Description

The new Construct 2 UI of r229 looks great in design but whenever I go to the eventsheet to add conditions/actions the loading of opening the dialogbox is very slow but in the r228 version the dialogbox shows instantly. Not only that r229 is sluggish in comparison but it also have a lot of dialog defects and it is shown in the video and images below.

    Icon Mode Performance:

1)Cache unique icons: Unusable in the event sheet + sluggish in my pc.

2)Don't show unique icons: Usable in the eventsheet but sluggish.

    3) Usable in the eventsheet but sluggish.

I also noticed that this only happens with big projects with a lot of objects unlike the templates or any small projects. I both tested the same project with r229 and r228 and it is very fast in r228 and very slow and buggy in r229. Here is the video of the comparison between the two with the same project: https://youtu.be/qTWMWqR7DMU

Here are the errors and weird things that happened with r229 that has never happened with r228:

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Have a big project with a lot of objects open. (Spriter Projects also helps to reproduce this because of the object count it contains)
    • Make sure to have events atleast 1000+ or 2000+.
    • Set Icon Mode to "Cache unique icons".
    • Click add event/click add action and you will notice it that the dialog will not show in an instant unlike r228.
    • When the dialog shows, there are times that error dialog shows, dialog box empty, invisible dialog box but resizable / draggable, disappearance of events dialog textbox missing or very small and displaced, disappearance of icons or crashing of Construct 2. Observed Result Video Link above or here: https://youtu.be/qTWMWqR7DMU Expected Result For the C2 UI system to be as fast & reliable or faster & more reliable than r228. Affected Browsers
N/A Operating System and Service Pack Windows 8.1 x64 Latest drivers and updated, Construct 2 Version ID Construct 2 r229
  • Amazing. You make animations as great as Gameart2D.

  • Okay, i"ll do that.

Edit: I've reported the topic to the mods so that it will be moved to the bug section to avoid duplication and i'll just insert the necessary details necessary for a bug report later on.

  • Ashley - Here is a video record I made of the errors , please kindly look at it:

I never had problems with R228 but with R229, you'll understand once you watch the video.

  • I just updated to Construct 2 R229, at first glance I liked the new design of the update until I went to the event sheet and clicked add action, it lags and after I select an object in the dialog it shows the error with a title of "CHECK FAILURE" and C2 crashes. And the error dialog sometimes shows a message about a memory leak. I can't use Construct 2 anymore without crashing.

I also noticed that it only happens on big projects (with hundred of objects) but not on templates. I also tried different types of Icon Mode and still no good. I also get a sluggish performance depending on the number of object in my project.

I'll post a before & after video after I am finished.

    Might be helpful:

Ashley , what happened to the new update?

  • How do you guyz make curved grounds ?

I use do it this way but I kind of experience platformer players getting stuck on the edges of the tiles. Can anyone advice me a better way ? Thanks.

  • Ashley - Well I am not an expert at this and don't get why we can't fall through with sloped jumpthru but I was hoping that it would work like the solid behavior that you can walk on two intersecting solid tiles but in jumpthru you could also fall through and jump up through the tile. Regarding where the upper part is, It would be nice if the angle will be the base.

  • Ashley - If that's the case then I'll just make it a suggestion for C3 if implementing it a different way is possible. It will be useful especially for platformer games .

  • Tom - I see. Anyway, the site seems to be looking fine now.
