Wastrel's Forum Posts

  • I found this post helpful to get an understanding of the concept: scirra.com/forum/lerp-clarification_topic48641.html

I also found this external post useful: forums.create.msdn.com/forums/p/45626/272505.aspx

    I hope those help.

  • Gamekill, i can hear sound, using the same machine as specified above.

  • nihakue, the sound worked for me. Here are my specs:

    • Windows 7, 64-bit
    • Chrome 18.0.1025.168
    • C2 R87

    I hope that helps.

  • Nice concept Newt. It can be addicting, and adding the elements mentioned by the other posters would only make it better.

I don't know if it's nostalgia or what, but i found the graphics style to be really captivating. Good job!

Edit: After playing some more, i would like to add some suggestions.

    • When the ship is being built, some type of indicator, like a dial or something, to show the ship's current power level, would be nice. I realize you can sort of tell by the opacity of the ship, but some type of metered indicator would be cool. Maybe the background of the square in which the ship is being built could slowly fill with color, like a clock hand sweeping around.
    • Some type of chart showing the distribution of ships by their power level, i.e. 20% heavy; 50% medium; 30% light, or whatever.
    • A pause button!
  • Try Construct 3

  • but it would also be usefull for textgames en direct textinput without inputfield. This was my primary reason for creating this plug-in in the first place. At the time, there was limited support for text entry. I was also looking at a way to be able to set custom key mappings, e.g. allow the player to reset movement from WASD to something else, in game. This would then allow the constructor to set a variable, and check that variable using the built-in keyboard functions. It was never meant to replace movement using the keyboard plug-in.

Since then, new features/plug-ins have been introduced which pretty much address these issues. I still think this plug-in might be useful in some situations, but it does not interact well with the keyboard plug-in. The keyboard plug-in basically overrides the keycode functionality.

IMO, the best option would be for Ashley to include the keycode functionality in the keyboard plug-in, when he has time, and if the need still exists.

  • I don't believe in some magical end of the world. I was being facetious.

I do however believe in the possibility of the slow decline of civilization due to resource over-usage and civil strife. And zombies, of course.

  • Looks more like a GameMaker alternative. There are alternatives to Construct as well... have you seen Game Develop?

    ^

This is why I love Scirra. I have never seen another developer who not only promotes discussion of the competitors on their forums, but also provides links to their products. Confidence FTW!

  • Here is a simple example of something I've used in some projects. It basically keeps a state of awareness for the enemy, and when changed to a different state, reacts appropriately.

Use WASD to move the player. When you get within 180 pixels, the enemy goes into an alert state. When you get within 90 pixels, the enemy turns and attacks the player.

  • This thread has been a very interesting read. I can see everyone has their opinion, usually supported by relevant facts. As someone else said, I think it boils down to what your intentions are for making games.

I am in the position of having some pretty specific projects in mind that are not very graphically intensive, and which I want to be fully web-based. I am also not looking to make any (or much) money from making games.

I can see how, if your position is different, that the pace and lack of platform coverage could be frustrating. It is a very interesting and dynamic time to be making indie games, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

  • Game play over graphics, for sure. Even with minimal graphics, as long as they are consistent and styled for the game, you can still have a popular game if the mechanics are good.

  • I suppose next time i could do a little searching and figure that out. <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I keep getting the "Assertion failure: cr.plugins not created" error when i try to open the capx. I verified I had the latest version of dataStructures and RandomPlus installed. I can also open other capxs.

    Weird.

  • I have been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead 2 Versus. I have found that trying to find a good team, and dealing with the idiots in that community, to be sort of like a psychological adventure game. It can be just as much (if not more) fun listening to the whining and b*tching, than playing the game itself.

Also some Global Agenda and Tribes:Ascend, mostly for one thing: JETPACKS!
