... For 2D games Construct2 is now officially better than Unity 3D.

I think mahdi71 isn't necessarily wrong with his argument that you shouldn't compare those engines with each another but nonetheless it's your opinion.

My opinion would be that both of the engines have their issues but Unity still to this day, delivers the better end-product with almost no 3rd party exporting hassle.

If you compare the amount of bugfixes that Unity gets per update, it should be pretty even with C2's side of bugfixing.

Usually one Unity update alone fixes 5 times the amount of bugs that a C2 update does (not counting the amount of additional features they add).

To sum it up, for me the end-product is important and C2's end-product is acceptable and the game development fits with all my needs.

In the end the price, usability and support lead to my decision to keep on working with C2 instead of Unity but that is my opinion and doesn't proof that "C2 won the fight", both engines are too different to easily compare them with one other and of course both of them come with their own kind of limitations and bugs.

I don't want to "trigger" you with the following but this topic feels more like the start of another unnecessary rant instead of a fair comparison.

Please just make sure you are fair and got all the facts and not just the negative things and say that "this is better than...".

However I'm not going to stop you or anything, you can post whatever you like to post.

  • It's really confusing to report more than one bug per report. You should file separate reports so each can be addressed individually.

HERE you go, sorry for the inconvenience.

I just thought that it would be better to have one whole bug report about this feature instead of 2 separate ones.

  • Problem Description

I'm a huge fan of the canvas recording feature and so far it was working like a charm.

However I've noticed that the VP9 recording returns an error message when using Firefox.

    Attach a Capx

Click HERE to enter the download dimension.

    Description of Capx

    Pretty self-explanatory.

    Steps to Reproduce

    • Run the project in Firefox
    • Click to start the recording (WebM VP9)
    • Notice a JS error message alert

    Expected Result

Recording should be fine using WebM VP9 mode.

    Affected Browsers

    • NW.js: NO
    • Firefox: YES

    Operating System and Service Pack

Windows 7 with latest updates and up to date drivers.

    Construct 2 Version ID

Newest release r235 Steam release. [Personal Edition]

    Additional maybe useful information:

    • NW.js version: v0.17.0
    • Checked C2 data with the Steam software data check system (0 Errors Found)
  • ive been experiencing this issue for the last 3 or 4 weeks....

only started after use of an existing "working" file that work was lost on when c2 crashed on exporting ... i removed the extension from the backup file...got my work back, then the weirdness started to happen.

    ...

I highly recommend to create a new projectfile and use the .capx format instead of a folder before it's too late!

As I mentioned before, that did the trick for me and since then I didn't have to deal with this loss of data thing ever again.

Here are some things that you could do, to avoid this bug from ruining your progress:

    > Pause any cloud-sync related programs while you work on your project and sync when you're done

    > Disable Windows automatic standby mode

    > Use a compressed capx instead of a project folder

If you want to be on the totally safe side just as I am, fully disable autosaving and do a "reminder" system.

I've added a global event which basically shows an alert to "Save your project!" after the window has been closed.

Even though it seems to work fine, I'm not going to trust autosaving ever again unless something is being done about it.

  • I can reproduce, but there is nothing we can do about this - the recording is handled entirely by the browser.

You should report the Chrome issue directly to crbug.com and the NW.js issue to https://github.com/nwjs/nw.js/issues.

Understood that, thanks for the response.

What about the JS error using VP9 in Firefox, is it caused by the browser or the plugin?

  • If you:

    - Buy the upgrade on our website

    - Email us proof of purchase on steam and the redeem code for the upgrade

We'll be happy to issue you a stand-alone business edition license redeem code to redeem on this website.

That's also kinda avoiding the question but I don't want to beat a dead horse with this.

I appreciate the offer and might consider running with it, depending on how everything will go on my end.

As long as you guys keep the updates for the Steam version on point with the Scirra Store version and don't fully abandon the Steam version, everything should be fine I guess.

Just have them merge your account with the offline version. Send them the payment details and proof of purchase. Tell them you want the business version but you want to buy the offline version and have it credited to your account. They will work with you even though steam and offline versions are 2 separate products.

That's a valid workaround but doesn't fix the problem.

We voted for C2 to be on Steam and porting everything to a "default" license and abandoning the Steam version as a result, is surely not what the community voted for.

  • I have been looking at the AJAX object as well and I am wondering if there is any good tutorials or even anything I can read up on about how to work on a login/signup system for my mobile application.

I have web space and all the tools in my CPanel for mySQL database etc.

I don't know much about Ajax sorry, I'd recommend a post in the "How Do I" section for this specific topic.

  • Wow so even if you make a good amount of money with Construct 2 , you want to pay less. Just wait for the steam version to go on sale might be their response.

I don't want to be rude but did you even read the whole thing?

To be honest I expected someone to post something like "Buy it you got the money!!!" but that is not the point of this topic and not really useful either.

I just wanted to politely ask if it would be possible to add the same product to the Steam Store, so that both kinds of C2 users can be able to get the same thing.

This is not about begging for a cheaper price, it's about having everything equal on every distribution platform.

I hope I made that clear enough, the small text on top was supposed to indicate this.

Also the Steam versions are mostly not affected by any kind of sales but I don't want to start a discussion about that right now.

  • I'm sorry if the following sounds cheap but it is what it is.

As a proud user of Steam, I've decided to buy my personal C2 license there.

Unfortunately I noticed that currently only the Scirra Store offers a discount, to those who would have to upgrade their personal license to a business one.

What this basically means is that C2 Steam users will have to pay more for the same product.

    Scirra Store Price

    229,99€

    >

    329,99€

    Steam Store Price

I consider this being unfair and for me, 100€ do matter even if my project has made a profit of ~5,000€ or more.

So I would like to request a change to the Steam licensing of C2, this could be done by offering a separate "C2 Business Upgrade" or by checking if a user owns a personal license and automatically reducing the price of the C2 business license. (Valve will be able to do something like that I guess.)

I'm not sure who would be the right person to tag for this specific issue, so I'll tag both Ashley Tom and would appreciate a response.

  • 'Loader layouts are not shown when publishing as native apps on mobile'

See "Limitations" section for more info. (HERE)

  • ~CLOSED~

Please do not apply for this anymore!

  • I've experimented it too, but I am unable to reproduce it.

From my tests done about a year ago this issue was caused by interrupting the auto-saving process.

However trying to interrupt the process requires external tools or one of the methods we've already mentioned here.

Just as a side note, I took a weekend off to create a new project file and transfer over all of my progress into that one. So far I didn't experience any issues with the new project file and I hope that this did the trick for me.

Although that doesn't mean that this bug is "fixed", this issue still exists somewhere in the code and will most-likly be fixed with the release of C3 I guess.

  • Short Introduction:

My name is T-R-Dannyyy, just Danny is fine too.

I'm a game designer that enjoys working with C2 or Software/Game Engines in general.

    The Game:

After working on several mini-games, I've decided to take a big step and work on my

first large game, which will most likely be sold on Steam if everything goes well in the process.

My game, currently called "---" is already 10 months in development

and it will be even longer in development until I'm fully satisfied with it.

    My Music Request:

I'm very open about the genre and I'd generally accept any kind of music track

that fits in the current gameplay situation. There are situations were the gameplay

is full on action and requires energetic, louder music. On the other hand, there are

situations were the gameplay is more "stealth" based which requires smooth and quiet music.

The following is not meant to be an advertisement for the product and should be seen as an example

on what kind of genre the music could be in. (Example)

    Technical Requirements:

    • Construct 2 Ready Format*
    • Bitrate: 320 kbps
    • Sample Rate: 44.1*
    • All tracks have to loop seamlessly
    • All tracks require a complete, 1 file version
    • Some tracks require certain instruments to be separated, to fit with the gameplay mechanics

    *See "Supported audio formats" HERE

    Music Composer Requirements:

    • Flexible Workflow (Has to accept changes in his/her work at any time, if I'm not fully satisfied with it.)
    • Good Communication (Has to be able to communicate on an almost daily basis, if required. [Languages: English / German])
    • Commercial Use (Has to accept that his/her work will be used inside a commercial game with possible large, public exposure.)
    • Well Experienced (A degree as a proof is not necessary, providing a large portfolio with examples is acceptable.)

    Payment Requirements:

    • Paid Work (Your work will be paid, I'm aiming for a price between 20€ - 150€.)
    • Payment with Paypal or Giropay (Payment with a credit card or using malicious 3rd Party websites/tools are not accepted!)
    • Payment will be in Euro [€] (Usually converting the currency should be possible using Paypal.)

    Additional Goodies (If Accepted):

    • Your Name can be used as a promotion inside the game.
    • Guaranteed acceptance for future requests if the game is successful. (E.g. Future DLC / Content Updates.)
    • Additional Donations/Tips can be earned on special occasions only. (Sometimes top-notch work, really has to be additionally rewarded!)

    Contact Information:

You can feel free to post your full portfolio below, generally I'd recommend to send me an Email or PM privately.

(PM to: HERE | Emails to: )

    Last Words:

I will try to respond to all applications, this might require some time so please be patient.

More details about the direction of the music tracks, will be told after you've been accepted.

If something is still not covered by this post and needs to be answered, please ask me directly in form of a comment.

Thanks for your time, looking forward to work with you!
