  • It has completely changed thanks to the Construct Community. The process itself is mostly the same. You have to select your Greenworks addon and follow the instructions given. What's new, is that you can now run with any version of NWjs using these custom prebuilds.

Can also reproduce this now on my Windows 10 PC with C2 (Steam). No crash messages or warnings, it's just straight up closing. I think this is it. I never experienced this type of "crash" before, probably because I never use alt+tab.

Ashley Would appreciate if you could fix this in the next C2 maintenance update.

  • C2 is the the latest 277 64-bit, installed the latest NW.js version last night and still had the issue crop up a few times. ...

NW.js version affected have been all since about 0.30.4. I say "all" but I update NW.js sporadically, so it's more like all that I've tried since 0.30.4. Before that version, the issue was a lot more frequent (almost every time I started up NW.js), and when my PC would hang up it seemed to last longer. A strange issue indeed.

Your hardware seems fine, unless you run a system with less than 1gb memory available. If the package.json files are not edited, then it's not that either. I would check if your antivirus software, perhaps blocks NWjs at some point.

If nothing helps, you could try to remove the temporally preview folder that NWjs creates [E.g. C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\PROJECTNAME (preview)]. NWjs preview savedata is marked with (preview) next to the project name. This will remove any game specific savedata.

    Example:

  • So, I'm still getting the occasional hiccup where I will try to preview the game in NW.js and the loading bar will just freeze. After closing the NW.js window the computer will seize up as if its CPU is maxed out.

This happens maybe every ~5 times I start up NW.js. It used to be a chronic problem before update 0.30.4. (IIRC), so whatever was done in that update helped, but seems I'm still having intermittent issues. What to do?

I can't help much with the info you shared.

    • OS + system info
    • Construct 2 version
    • NWjs version(s) affected
    • Latest NWjs release tested?
  • The low quality window icon issue has been fixed in the latest NWjs v0.46.1 release.

  • I can't reproduce the closing/crashing issues anymore. NWjs 0.46.1 seems to have the fix, I'd recommend everyone to update.

  • The website makes it easy to choose the prebuild based on the OS, architecture and runtime required but are the prebuilds standalone (contains everything) or does the user need to install the original Greenworks (as found in Construct3 website, I think the latest version is for nwjs 33.3) prior to installing the prebuild?

The prebuilds make it possible to use any NWjs version with your selected greenworks or greengrinds addon. What each addon itself requires to work, is still up to the addon developers. They usually have step by step guides themselves.

Please follow the installation guide for info on how to use the prebuilds.

  • Thank you, that issue can be a bit annoying since many games use Alt and Space as default buttons, and pressing them together can happen.

I think the problem is that this context menu is deeply integrated into the whole build process of Windows applications itself. If the question board leads nowhere, I could try to create an issue and request that it's at least disabled in full screen mode.

  • Guys, I thought I'd share with you the best signing and notarizing method for MacOS, since it's now the only way to distribute your apps on Mac. ...

Thanks a lot of providing this info!

I feel like this would be better off as a tutorial. It would reach a lot more people and you'd have several options to simplify it even further. I'll link to it if you decide to create it.

No updates for the "Alt+Space context menu", "Icon low quality again" and "Steam Overlay rendering above window bar" issues. Will try to keep everyone posted.

  • Hey there, is there a way to disable the Alt+Space windows menu?

I know which menu you mean and I could reproduce in both windowed and even fullscreen mode. I'm currently not aware of a way to disable it but I'm sure it's technically possible.

I've asked in their Google Group for NWjs related questions.

  • I think I've correctly identified the crashing issue and reported it to the NWjs dev team.

As some of you already found out. It only seems to occur with NWjs v0.45.0+. I'd recommend using NWjs v0.44.X until it's fixed.

  • TheRealDannyyy how do I revert to a previous NWJS with your fantastic launcher? I just updated in your launcher, but it crashes almost instantly.

Wrong topic, next time please ask in my launcher topic.

The only way to "revert" is to switch to the outdated official release build. Temporally solution could also be to just follow the steps from here and use a seperate NWjs setup, without the launcher.

Also please provide crash logs or ways to reproduce if possible, so I can do a proper bug report.

  • Still the same issue, construct 3 crashes back to desktop after about 20 to 30 seconds.

Could you search for a log file and upload it? Usually located inside the same folder where the nw.exe is. I can reopen the GitHub issue and tell them that it's still crashing.

  • The latest NWjs 0.45.5 release has several crash fixes, including worker mode fixes after launch. I'd recommend everyone to update to that version.

  • Perhaps I missed it:

Does the Launcher retain CTRL+F-like search functionality, the search that extends over-top of the engine's search? Doesn't seem to work for me.

Does the launcher retain Ctrl+R-like functionality of refreshing the preview window?

You seem to be talking about NWjs itself and not the launcher. Browser feature support is fully up to them. The launcher just keeps NWjs up to date and launches selected release versions of Construct 3.
