  • Temptng, and I may end up doing that if I can't figure it out after taking another look at it in a day or two. I'm old and stubborn!

  • Ever have one of those days (or in my case three on a row now) where you are doing the simplest of things in Construct 2, something you have created events for many times, yet all of sudden in a new project it just doesn't work, and for the life you there does not seem to be an obvious reason why?

I am having a rough couple days...

Enemy has LOS to player, moves to player and attacks. Simple. Easy. Have done dozen of such events now in a few games I made for the grandkids... now all of sudden in a new project it doesn't work. Went back to past games where it works and have the exact same setup as the new game... new game doesn't work right.

Probably something obvious... but I am sure it has happened to all of us.

Time to walk away and come back in a day or two.

Happy Holidays to everbody.... Good luck on your projects.

  • The "Light Radius" setting can also cause the affect to see through the edges of bordering sprites even as solids. Turning down the light radius can soften that edging affect. Just a tip... I run into that sometimes.

  • Very nice - great share!

  • Checked it out on Steam. Looks Awesome!

Will certainly purchase it this weekend. Need something new to play around with...

  • Hehehe... keep getting my butt handed to me by those big green monsters...

  • Bard's Tale 1, back in 1985. Changed my life.

  • So did you get your level done?

Either the top down shooter or platform tutorial on the first page of the tutorial page will take a couple hours to run complete and get you your first game level completed.

  • Very cool!

  • I'm working on one myself. Very doable. I am in the concept testing phase to make sure I am able to do the things I want to do in the game... so far so good.

I am planning on making a clone of some of the mid 80s top down RPGs like Ultima 4 and Legacy of the Ancients (minus the 3D dungeons as seen in Legacy... will do top down view dungeons like a 'rogue' like)...

Screen shots can be seen at the bottom of my "in production page":

  • HI Guys,

Check out this page for great Construct 2 tutorials and CAPX files for basic and smooth grid movements...

  • Very nice. Just came across this doing some searches for research on a project I am attempting. I am trying to make an old school CRPG clone of the early Ultima games and games like The Legend of Blacksilver. I only have a couple platform games and a top down shooter under my belt, so jumping into a large CRPG project has been difficult the past couple weeks. But I have some progress posted on my web page. Slow going...

  • Thanks for the feedback - that is exactly what my reasoning has been; that it is certainly doable. I've created a test project where I am testing my ideas, and so far everything has been working without too much difficulty. Seemed to have run into a snag when starting on my overland map, then going into a town, and then when coming back out of the town onto the overland map my character keeps appearing at its original 'start of layout' location. I know there is a way around that, perhaps with the 'persist' behavior or adding a couple global variables for X and Y local.... have to think on that....

  • Looking at this as a possible fix for a problem I am having... Question: does each layout have to have it own event sheet for this to work?

Answer to my own question: it would appear so.

  • I grew up in the 80s with a C64 and loved playing RPGs on it, like Legacy of the Ancients, Questron, Ultima 4... I have been toying with the idea of making a similar RPG styled game along the lines of an early Ultima Clone. I have been writing down notes and playing around with design tests and think it can be done - visually it shouldn't be a problem to create a similar game screen as those early RPGs and transition from overmap, to towns, to dungeons, to whatever...

However, since I new to game making and Construct 2, I don't have any experience using arrays. Before I jump further into my game testing I thought I would ask some experienced designers here, who are familiar with those old school RPGs listed above, if they thought it possible to make such a game with Construct 2. I was leaning towards a single character RPG like in Legacy of the Ancients and not a multi character RPG like the Ultima games. My mine concern is being able to control character inventories and buying/selling at shops in towns - which should be possible using arrays - correct???

Am I crazy to attempt this?
