You have the option to export to an EXE in C2 now as well.

You get that for free, no add-on required.

Misspoke, you also get this in GM free.

Hi Draspur, despite your points, all of which are valid, I still stand by my view that C2 is the best all in one `2D` solution for your money.

I have tried each of the tools that you have mentioned over the years and despite each having their own individual strengths none of them allow me to create a 2D game with the ease and finesse as C2.

I would agree, if you are a non-programmer and not interested in mobile development.

This does cost money but so far of what I have seen I think it's well worth the price and still in reach.

I LOVE the fact they give you a free version that really isn't that limited.

If you purchased this without using it and you are disappointed, it's your own fault, because you get enough with the free version to determine that.

Plus I think they are very aggressive in constantly improving this product. There are engines out there that you pay for but hardly EVER get an update or improvement.

This gives me the ability to make a decent game first and then pay later if I want to go to the next step. Very little risk and I appreciate that!

No disagreements here. But of course there are engines that hardly update. There are also many that do, construct 2 among them.

  • Ok, okay. Has anyone uploaded an "full game."? You know, sound effects, music, moving objects, parralax background, effects of somekind? Basically anything more than a puzzle game?

  • The main problem is that for other platforms the game runs through it's internet browser, so that greatly restricts. Maybe if their was a nativly written plugin for android and iphone that could be implemented into these projects specifically for executing html 5 through itself things would improve?

I do agree they should consider a third C2 programmer, as the backlog keeps stacking. But they are doing more than the best they can. So the problem is C2 is entirely html 5 based, and that is built on internet browsing. If their was a way to export to a better framework for mobile like lua or c++, but that seems intensely complicated. I wander how unity handles it so well...

  • +1

Should be added to project properties

  • I'm sure you all despise me by now <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> But know I only play devil's advocate because I care. I have better things to do then criticize products I'm not interested in. Now that that's been said....

Game Maker is $499 for everything that Construct 2 can do and Game Maker is a outdated and somewhat cumbersome environment. I have wasted far more amounts of money on other software development tools. I bought Construct 2 and it is worth every penny if not more.

These features are optional, but the cheapest option is $50, much cheaper than C2. This also has the ability to support exe. However mobile on construct 2 is currently fairly incapable. You do have to pay to catch up to C2's exports so if you're uninterested in exe and mobile that's good. Gamemaker also has a much bigger community, but you don't get such direct access to the devs so tie there. The gm environment seems pretty streamlined to me, the argument could be made either way, after reviewing I see it hasn't changed all too much. What makes you think it's outdated?

I just wanted to agree with what has already been said above. For what you are actually getting for your money, compared to the competition and the outstanding quality and support that Scirra provide, you really cannot get a better product for your money.

Unity provides fully functional support for all platforms, for free. If your interested in mobile, 200$ with game maker or gideros or something for functionality over $120 for a currently crippled system is much better.

The price is not at all steep, as soon as you have a look at the competition.

No it's not, but neither is the competition particularly.

I`m just really thankful that C2 exists and that Ashley and Tom are such great guys.

    Agreed.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Though nowhere officially says this it looks like it can be sent through greenlight. You've defiantly got the community to back you up :)

  • oof. That really kills it. I honestly feel somewhat mislead by scirra.

  • Congrats! But, has anyone actually uploaded a game?

  • You may find the price set too high, lets say 20 people come across your site, if they are interested and see this at $20 they will probably drop the money instantly. At $200 dollars you are raisin the barrier of entry. Of those left, they may search for alternatives or delay their purchase or forget it entirely. Just my 2 cents.

  • C2 is still great for doing certain gamestyles on mobile.

things like an animated storybook or connect4 or picture matching games.

however i would not make ambitious platform games or shooting games for now until mobile browsers support webgl as standard.

How exactly does it's export work? Do construct 2 mobile apps rely on the systems built in browser and run a simulation of that to run the app? Because I've played 3D mmorpgs, minecraft, first person shooters with impressive graphics, etc on my ipod. But what I'm gathering here is that not even a simply angry birds clone would be plausible. And let's be realistic, how many people really want to make/play those kinds of games.

  • Agreed, this would allow for automatic updating as well, but I'm not sure if they could retain a separate channel for beta users.

  • They bumped up the price a few weeks ago, I was planning on buying but that put a halt to that. They probably wouldn't just tell us, that wouldn't make business sense, but maybe this holiday season we'll get lucky...

  • Man this thread is a bummer. I wish I had seen all the mobile problems C2 had *before* starting a mobile project. Once my iPad gets in I'll give a shot to that .ipa with OSx86 business. Wish me luck!

Heh, sorry about that, know how you feel. Construct 2 is great for the chrome store and kongregate at least but mobile is where it is at. Maybe Joannesalfa can enlighten us more...

  • I set a preloader for my audio in the loading layout but it function independently from the loading bar. How do I include it or make on for the audio?

  • You would need an event to set that variable first, such as on object touched set variable "istouched" to 1.

But I need on touch end. Not is not touched
