  • Sweet! Looks like something I'll enjoy thoroughly. :D

    As a side note, great swinging corpses -- very unnerving.

  • Beaverlicious Thanks much!!

    That's odd...I swear I never programmed the music stopping!!

    Someone's pointed out the music glitch already.

    I dismissed it because I never faced it myself, but I guess I really have to look into it now!

    Thanks for notifying :)

    And the alien's default color is green!

    For example in the village (which I'm starting to program) you will always walk around in green mode. And you'll be spending a lot of time in the village.

    Moreover...Green might not just refer to the alien's color. ;) Energy conservation is (going to be) a theme in the game, after all.

  • Thanks!! I might just make a checkpoint for it, and I'll keep that in mind for the rest of the levels as well.

    And now -- Cast of Characters!! (those in the village, at least. NOT A COMPLETE LIST but these are the main guys)

    <img src="http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/IC-Claws/KidRedoneFull_zpsd9d746d9.png" border="0" />

    Bud

    The young 6 year old who finds you in the middle of nowhere, and carries you back to his village. Everyone's appalled by his bringing back a little green man, but at Bud's insistence, he gets to keep his "nice pet alien" -- you!

    <img src="http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/IC-Claws/DadFull_zps74e97a68.png" border="0" />

    Porter

    Bud's daddy. Quiet and mysterious, but clearly protective of his wife and son. He's hardworking and an all-around genius, having made up some brilliant inventions to share with the village folk. Always cooped up in his lab on some research.

    <img src="http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/IC-Claws/MomFull_zps43695550.png" border="0" />

    Colombe

    Bud's mom. A kind and loving soul, she doesn't hesitate when asked to take care of the newcomer alien. She was an extreme feminist in her younger days, but now when her husband is managing everything by himself, she feels a little useless...especially when the world is in a crisis.

    <img src="http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/IC-Claws/UncleFull_zps2e4518d9.png" border="0" />

    Canis

    Bud's uncle and Colombe's younger brother. A laidback guy who can put on a grin during hard times. Always sneaking around the village -- seems to be up to something.

    As always, comment if you feel like it!

  • Corpse-surfing....brilliant. Bloody brilliant.

    Best of luck with Kickstarting the project guys!!

  • ALLMarkMade Thanks! :)

    Alright, new stuff:

    <img src="http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/IC-Claws/DadandKid_zps98cadd97.png" border="0" />

    Redid the kid (now named Bud) because the previous portrait was rushed.

    Above him is his dad, Porter. A silent, grim man, but also a genius engineer.

    Up next - the mom. Man, there's so many things to do before I can finish up the village itself...

    Ehh.... new link. Fixed some stupid bugs like the tutorial text not going away, loading percentage being stuck at a certain number etc.

    Please do inform me on any remaining bugs...or any feedback on the game itself! Thanks!

  • CrudeMik thehorseman007 VictoryX

    Thanks a lot, guys! Like, seriously, a lot. You motivated me to finish up my updated version.

    VictoryX, I must honestly say I haven't ever encountered the problem with the music. Maybe you accidentally pushed the 'M' key?

    SHINY NEW UPDATE:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33614587/Little%20Green%20Soldier%20%28updated%29/index.html

    This is it! New update.

    New features:

    -Loading Screen

    -Intro Sequence

    -Absorb mechanic while running/jumping

    -Short intro sequence to the village (home base for the game)

    -Spritefont (except the tutorial text which I'm still lazy to correct)

    Inform me on any bugs please! Have fun and as always, leave a comment if you feel like it!

    EDIT: Yeah...did the new controls in a rush. It's extremely buggy...sorry guys...

  • In honesty I found the "Game Over" in the demo quite jarring...

    Wouldn't it have been better to put an "End of Demo" message?

    But great pixel art. Seriously.

  • Whoa. Many thanks for the comments everyone!!

    russpuppy um...I haven't really thought of that yet, still figuring out how to make the game itself. But I might try, really.

    Binkus Oh I'm definitely going to add the absorb mechanic for jumping and running soon. It's just that...it's a nightmare to program (like switching between animations and whatnot).

    I've also thought about the damage output thing, but I realized it was a little confusing....after all, lke in this alpha stage, the fire enemies are already taking fire damage (if anyone should be immune, it's them). But I might add, like, double damage mechanics for different energy used.

  • Great pixel art, but more importantly, the music is extremely kickass. I replay every time just to hear a little more of it.

    Nice job!

  • Haha, many thanks.

    I'll definitely work on the upward shot, it's a great idea. :D

  • Hey everyone! Tiny update just to show that I'm alive, and also because I can only do so much right after exams.

    Intro sequence is mostly done! It was quite fun to do, honestly.

    ALL credits for the spritefont go to Scirra user Paradox (thank you, it's amazing.)

    And then it's about time I started working on the village you're supposed to go next.

    Comment if you will! Feedback of any sort will be much appreciated.

  • *raises both hands in thumbs up*

    Sounds as wet as I hoped for! Good job.

  • Rescuing this thread from its undeserved burial in the older pages.

    Dude, your pixel art is flippin amazing! I'm still trying to emulate it.

    Fantastic edits to the game; previously I was quite reluctant to point out that I found the game a little dry, but now that there's the whole arm-plucking business and later on the dwarf as well, I figure this game is going to be really fantastic.

    As always...keep it up!!
