  • This is just incase anyone else has ran into a similar issue:

My project is quite old and I was using the Create Object action using an old hierarchy template. I had not used hierarchies for a while in my project as the code was just disabled for ages, and when I came back to it, I ran into a big issue that took me a little bit to fix.

This was causing an infinite loop of errors to be logged to the console which bled into my character spawning system. I noticed this when I tried to create an object from the hierarchy whilst creating a character sprite at the same time, it started spawning character sprites at the same rate as the errors being generated, so I had this flood of character sprites just infinitely spawning along with the infinite loop being logged about the heirarchy father's name in the console.

So, I decided to try and fix this issue by reproducing it and reporting it as a bug but I discovered that creating a new project does not carry old templates for hierarchies, it just simply creates new ones for it self, so I can't report it as a bug.

All I did was change the template name to something else in both the father of the heirarchy object and the name of the template to create from in the Create Object action, and this fixed the issue. Heirarchies now work fine after that.

I hope this helps anyone running into it, otherwise feel free to share, I'm intersted if people are having similiar issues caused by hierarchies.

  • Thank you, Tom!

If this still does not work, clear your cache. This now works for me!

  • A few minutes ago, I was getting a white screen with "Service is Unavailable".

Now I'm able to load parts of the website, but still not the Construct 3 editor, it gets stuck on 56%.

Now, I get a standard page with the Construct logo and red writing saying that it returned a 503 at FetchDocument when it tried to load the properties bar.

Seems to be intermittent between loading to about 50% to an "Oops, there was an error loading Construct"

Wow man, you make this seem easy. It makes sense now after I see it all, though, I just couldn't put it together.

This is a great example to use. Thanks again for your help!

  • tarek2

Just one question on this example you shared, how would I make it so that you can click on the scroll bar (not the slider) and it jumps to that point in the text?

  • Hey tarek2

This is about the type of system I am looking for. Excellent!

Thank you so much for the example. I'll definitely use this to help me in my game! :)

  • Okay, thanks for your advice tarek2

How would I go about creating a scroll bar?

  • Hello,

    Conundrum!

I'm trying to make a log that has the following:

    1. A Scroll bar (for when the log gets too big, players can use a scroll back to browse up and down the log)

    2. Part bold text - I'm going to use this for time and date. Yes, I know about the time and date tutorial on the website, that's fantastic but I want to make this part bold and the actual log details normal text.

Is there any way to do both of these things in one object?

The text box has everything I need except it doesn't come with a scroll bar - Do I have to design the scroll bar separately for this to work the best possible way and if so how does one do that?

    OR

Do I use the Text Input field which scrolls and comes with a free scroll bar - but how would I make the time and date part of the message bold and not the rest?

Your advice is appreciated and THANK YOU in advance! :)

  • Where can I get the NW.js version? I cannot find a download link anywhere.

It’s in the first post on page 1.

  • Hey. I changed my name from LukeNecklace to LukeWolfGames on all social platforms so my new Twitch channel is twitch.tv/lukewolfgames

  • Hello!

If anyone is still experiencing a crash with the nwjs crash after resizing the preview window, closing then opening it again (or just experiencing the nwjs crash when in the middle of using the dev tools), feel free to do this until Scirra update their nwjs version for Construct 3 Desktop (I know this issue has been very disruptive for me):

First of all as a precautionary measure. Save a back up of your project as a separate file (or folder) and continue using that until scirra update the nwjs.

Second of all: copy the folder that you have of Construct 3 as a backup in case something happens with your installation (worse case scenario, you can always just download the old version from here again anyway. I don't think you'll run into any problems).

    Third: download this: dl.nwjs.io/v0.40.1/nwjs-sdk-v0.40.1-win-x64.zip

Fourth: Extract all of the files EXCEPT FOR THE .EXE FILE (keep the Construct3.exe unchanged. If you change it to the new one, it will not load any saved projects so it's important this file is unchanged).

Fifth: Run Construct 3. You will be able to use your dev tools (press F12), close and open the preview window as much as you want without it crashing the nwjs.

I hope this is is helpful.

Thanks to Forbidden_Soul from Twitch for helping me with this issue. I can finally test my game without experiencing a crash every 30 seconds.

  • Hey!

My name is Luke. I'm from Australia and I'm using Construct 3 to create my game called Chomp 'N' Cheeky which is a 2D puzzle adventure game. I stream Monday to Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM Australian Sydney Time. Here's a link to my channel: twitch.tv/lukenecklace

I've been streaming since the 8th of July and looking to build a community around my games and meet some awesome people!

  • Video update for v1.1.2-alpha:

    Discord community:

  • Nagval333 This is the first time I've heard of a game being stolen, especially around here. Usually game designers are too focused on bringing to life their own creations. Good work protecting your stuff, well done!

  • Hello my awesome fellow Construct community people!

I have released a shareware alpha version of my Chomp 'N' Cheeky game. You can play it here:

Click here to play Chomp 'N' Cheeky (Shareware)

This is the shareware, which means that I am allowing people to play a portion of the game for free. The shareware version is currently in browser. The full version is not released and is still in development but will be available on desktop before I optimise it for mobile.

    KNOWN ISSUES

This version is currently alpha so please expect the following:

    1. Currently no sound or music. This will be added but I am not ready to do that yet!

    2. The graphics are not final. I plan on enhancing the graphics once I have completed adding all features and content in the full version (I will also be looking for graphics designer to help me out here).

    3. The game play is complete but still open to enhancements where needed.

    4. I do not have any plans for multi-player because this is my first commercial game.

    5. If you find any bugs, please use the in-game bug report form to report them.

    6. Only compatible via PC at the moment. Mobile compatibility is planned after full version is complete.

    7. It is recommended to view the game in full screen!

    SUPPORTING ME

I am streaming live development work of Chomp 'N' Cheeky weekdays starting 9:00AM on Twitch for 7 hours up until 4:00PM Australian Sydney time. Your support would be much appreciated!

Click here for my Twitch channel to support me with your contribution live and daily!

Note: I started streaming on the 8th of July. I do save recent broadcasts, so feel free to check out my VODs there if you want to catch up, but you can also tune in between 9:00AM and 4:00PM Monday to Friday Australian Sydney time to be with me while I work on the game!

Click here for my Twitter to get regular updates!

Click here for my YouTube Channel to get video updates!

Note: I have not yet uploaded any videos on Chomp 'N' Cheeky yet, but I will be uploading a video soon to log a video update on a minor release I did last week. The two videos I currently have there are reviewing someone else's video game which I was doing before I started streaming. It might be something I do on the side to help other game designers as well but I need to get more organised before making that decision.

Just following me is much appreciated, especially on Twitch since most of my content is on there.

    PLANS

Currently, I am still enhancing the shareware version of the game before continuing level development in the full version.

There's a lot of people around this forum that I want to thank for their help. I plan on adding their names to my game's credits feature when I get around to making it. I will be in touch around here looking for certain users' permission to put their name in the credits (even if it's just a forum username it's fine).

If anyone else is streaming Construct developing their games, please let me know, I'll be happy to support them too as much as I can!

I hope you lovely people enjoy the game!

Any questions? Just let me know!
