  • EDIT

nm, figured out the first two questions, but:

what is the SelectF, and IsSelectedF for?

  • only really badass stuff, please

I'll start up with some left4dead awesomeness:

  • I think he was trying to make a joke. Look at the topic title.

I know, but just seeing his name makes me wanna rant, unless it's written in green,

then I just feel all warm and fuzzy inside

  • I like it

  • post a cap just by uploading it to something like dropbox

    http://www.getdropbox.com/

  • I've always thought soldjah boy(the rapper, not the board mod) was incredibly lame and stupid, just like stupidass overrated lil wayne

what idiots, I don't understand how anyone can like their garbage idiot noise.

I'm a fan of hiphop mind you.

i wouldn't flinch if his music was never played again, but I doubt that will happen

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • im on my cell at work so i cant take a look at your cap right now, however. if you apply "solid" or "platform.(cant remember which without looking at construct), you should be able to do the same thing with platform behavior.

also, no, it shouldnt go into creations forum. that is for completed works. so anything without graphics, or that youre still working on isnt supposed to go there

    welcome to the active board

  • haven't tried creatoon

    I'll take a look though.

I've tried anime studio, flash, and toon boom

and also, the puppet feature in after effects

I like the look of cutout animation, especially when it's elaborate, like the outtro to Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events, or the cartoon network show El Tigre(though I'm not a fan of the show itself)

but for my own style I prefer if the puppet can bend (like anime studio, and after effects)

I've used those type of software as a shortcut to drawing thousands of frames, not necessarily to achieve the cutout look

by the way, anime studio is a horrible name for it. no one's ever going to make an anime with that.

also, for some reason discussing procedural animation, and you bringing up putting puppets on a site made me remember this, thought you (or anyone else reading), might find it cool

  • Nvidia provides both the engine and SDK for free to Windows and Linux users and developers

  • hahaha, thanx...I think??

Im not a huge fan of "trying to look anime". Im a huge fan of "do what ya do to express yaself in your own way". Im sorry, but I have not worked for a Manga studio (unless you are refering to the software known as "anime studio"...

yeah, anime studio the program, I don't think your style looks anime

    it looks unique

do you plan to do the puppet thing as an exe sometime?

also, I have closed source engine I'll be making sometime, to create procedural armatures

and it will also do timeline animation

I was going to develop it with the eventual idea of releasing it commerically if it worked as well as I hope. you can definitely beta test it if you're interested. it'll be a while before it's in testable readiness, but it should be quite friendly, and fun to work with, and really powerful.

either way though. love the style, not just artwise, but the imagination as well

I'll be keeping an eye on your work

  • ChangeLog

    v0.3b

    fixed:

    • crash when testing for cursor position when not in edit box
    • crash when testing for cursor position when not locked to grid
    • several crashes when checking for information on a character, when you had not picked them through "for each character"(now return 0 instead of crashing)

    added:

    • condition: Is Writing
    • condition: In Edit Box
    • condition: Edit Box Ended

also, added a cap, to show how the edit box and cursor works

you can move the cursor with the arrow keys, aside from the automovement with typing

    http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1013446/bitmapped%20text/tutorials/cursor.cap

Newt, if you can do me a favor, and list the different types of coords that should have float values, because I will have to change several values, and I'd prefer to do them all at once.

the position of the phrase?, the y offset for characters? etc.. I don't need to know each action to change them in, just which types of values other than phrase position you'd like to see as floats

don't worry quazio...sorry, I mean Davi. set range through string still coming.

newt, still looking into the private variables

    and thank you holymonkey.

  • heh, i was in the middle of editting that when you posted

  • hey, davio, thanks for reporting the crash, i will fix that and add the "is writing" for the next build.

k, im on my phone so i cant make a cap

but you call "start edit box", and most of the options explain themselves if you click on them.

try setting a dash for the blank character to see what it does. choose an initial phrase, and the max number of characters allowed. once you start edit box,

you should be able to type and erase characters(some cool conditions for this one, too, like"typing attempted on full edit box").

you will continue to be able to type characters until you call "end edit box" or if you set the option for it in you original call, it can be ended by pressing enter.

set a sprites position to cursorx, cursory, and you'll understand what it is.

you can also get the character currently under a cursor, and set the option to "only allow arrow keys" to make a snes style name edit screen where you choose your letters instead of typing them. as of now up and down arrow keys dont work for this. will be fixed in a later build.

also, if you havent tried it yet. not in edit box, but in regular text, try setting alignment to center or right, and then do write text, with "insert" and then "absolute" . kinda neat

  • that looks awesome, and the grass movement looks great as well

it's insane how much this reminds me of secret of mana
