  • Awesome concept. Make your own music and this will be ace!

  • Would help a lot if you showed some of your code as screenshot or capx.

  • Finally I think my game may be considered "completed", as if a game ever is complete.

In this game you're controlling the main character Ted Venture. He is on one of his many adventures when he looses control over his minecart. It's your job to control him down the rough tracks. The game is hugely inspired by the early 8-bit gaming era, in speak of sound and art.

You control Ted's minecart by jumping (space) and using arrow keys to steer left and right along the rails. Collect diamonds(

    ) and gold bars (

    ) to gain extra score.

All arts and music are made entirely by myself, and it is first time I did everything from scratch.

Game can be played here: https://www.scirra.com/arcade/underground-jam/ted-venture-2153

  • The game should be more or less bug free now. Please let me know if you find any, or if you have any suggestions for improvement.

One advice is to run the game in full screen.

  • Who Knows

  • Use a fitting font like Courier, Courier New, Raster Fonts or anything than looks like cmd. Then add a transparent textbox in the command prompt.

  • About locking blocks I would use instance variables to keep track on which blocks have a block on top of it etc.

  • Just played it. Nice game. Flows well. The graphics look good and the music fits the genre.

The only comment I have is that there is definitely en element of luck to it, jumping to the next platform without always being able to see it, which can make it frustrating... but still playable.

PS- what did you use to make the music?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Yes, I will work on optimizing the platform jumping as, like you say, there is a bit of luck to it as well.

The music was made by using a range of VST-plugins in Cubase, but any DAW will work for creating the music. The VST-plugins are usually free. A nice list of them can be found here: https://woolyss.com/chipmusic-plugins.php

  • First version now running. Added link to my starting post.

  • Looks interesting and I am a guitar player but I could only get the drum to play in the online version- bummer!

You must push the up or down arrow on your keyboard while selectecting a tune.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Even though there are similar games out there where you actually can simulate instruments, I really like your approach with characters and atmosphere. As bilgekaan pointed out, it's not really fun alone. What about adding a singleplayer mode, where the monkey plays a random predefined beat?

  • So far so good. I would be adding time bonus though. It would make the game a bit more engaging.

In general I hade ingame ads. They make the game lag, and may result in irritating misclicks.

  • janlindso Are you sure? We controlled it with a global variable for last player that touched the building...

    Could you show this issue?

If I'm King Crom and make the building fall, but the player has already changed to Morzilla, then Morzilla wins the game. Maybe that is how the game is supposed to be? If a player makes the building fall, he fails?

  • I don't think I would've closed the demo, when you're game isn't more famous already. If people hear about your game now, they want to play it. And if they don't find it, they will most likely forget about it. So my advice would be to keep the demo up, with a release date for full version. I think the game has potential, so good luck!

  • Probably the best stuff I've seen here so far. Really takes me back to the Game Boy days. Hats off!
