    The problems you are listing are really but really easy to solve, a team working on a project are in constant communication, there can even be an implemented chat and all, stuff like "not being able to work" will never happens, there are also soooo many softwares that have collaboration features in real time even softwares for video editing.

    I will suggest you Ashley to do some research firts instead of saying no from the start, since it's not something impossible to do and that many softwares do already, all the problems you are listing are really but reaaaaally easy to solve for an UX expert.

    The problem goes deeper than simply adding a popup button, it's easy to add a popup sure, but is that's necessarily not good UX, especially in an application with so much inheritance. There is no one size fit all solution and it's not "reaaaaally easy" to solve if you want to keep a good UI and UX relationship. However this still doesn't make it an impossible task, it just requires research and testing and a lot of implementation.

    In the end It would essentially become version control, and then as Ashley said:

    No, they have already said several times, you can not edit if you are not subscribed. For some reason Scirra loves dependencies, now you depend on being subscribed to edit your project.

    You sure that's both offline and online? I can't find any information about that anywhere.

    Then following up on the idea above: For users who stop paying, only allow to use the offline version. Also, since they won't have any updates, any potential browser update that breaks games or introduces new features would be out of those users' reach, unless they subscribe again. Btw, Tom stated, that users won't be able to edit their projects after the subscription ends, only open them. This goes for the offline version as well I think.

    Hmm I'm sure I saw somewhere that you would still be able to open and work on your project offline after the subscription period, though i can't find that information anymore. Ashley could you please clarify this, because it isn't mentioned in the FAQ nor on the announcement page.

    Well it begs the question, why on earth did they commit to a cloud-based service in the first place? Was there popular demand for it? Maybe I'm missing something. But speaking for myself at least, I have no interest in it. Sync.com. pCloud etc, plenty of free and secure cloud services to go around.

    Presumably because they are running out of money and want a more reliable way of being profitable and make their company bigger. I'm not exactly ecstatic about it either... I would have preferred if they had gone the route of Superpowers which makes it possible to setup your own web server.

    All they need to do is drop the being locked out of your project after twelve month and it would be fine.

    I mentioned somewhere else on these forums that I have a suite of components for UI dev in VS which is a twelve month sub type system. But if you don't renew the sub you can't get updates, additions. or bug fixes - you do however get to keep and use the components forever after that. Additionally you can renew your sub at any time you want - even years later - at a reduced price.

    I can renew it now if I want, although I haven't done so for nearly two years, because there is nothing new added that I need.

    This way you are not milking them by expecting never ending work done to the tools, and they are not milking you by expecting you to keep paying to use the tools.

    Much fairer system I think.

At some point there wouldn't be money to pay for the cloud server anymore without a loss because nobody would be paying annually, yet their server would possibly need upgrades because of a larger user-base that would require a bigger server capacity and other things.

    If you are a corporation with other products that are profitable, then yes it's possible but if you're a company with a one time fee product, then there's no steady income to make such a business model possible.

    You may not have access to the cloud anymore, but you can still download your stuff and work offline as far as I have understood.

    Construct 2 was seen as a toy for both hobby as well as serious game developers trying to survives. It gained a user base because it was much cheaper than other competitors at the time and it did it all at the price of $30? I think I paid in the VERY early state... and now $100 or something. Still one time payment and still very approachable.

    Going subscription based will kill some of a user-base but it will most likely also gain a new. It's a move that not everyone (including myself) will be happy about but luckily we live in a world where there are so many alternatives, nothing exactly like Construct 2 nor CC though.

    I'll be checking out the beta but it's 99% guaranteed that I won't pay for subscription, never has, and never will.

    Unity personal is free for as long as you wish. When Unity 5 was announced almost all features were made available for free with the exception of source control and collaboration.

  • I can see the exhaustion from the developers point of view here, and i do not think that C2 would solve the issues. Surely they could possibly do it much faster, but they would likely run into other problems with people having problem with either this or that version of the game since there is no native export for neither platforms. They also have less debugging control and more limited workflow, especially if there is more than one programmer. For a "big" indie team i do not think C2 works that well.

    Also i love Construct but C2 is so dependant on open source export libraries and the node-webkit wrapper for PC, MAC and Linux, which means one can get stuck with various problems and experience performance issues which could be caused by the exportation method, likewise if you would like some feature added, you either would have to wait (if enough wants it) or write your own plugin.

  • It is possible yes, but you need to run it in a virtual machine, aka. Windows inside OS X. If you intend to use the laptop for Construct 2 or other non OS X applications only, then ideally it would be best to choose a laptop with windows 7/8. I find it neglecting to run a virtual OS inside another OS to run certain programs... especially if you need the performance.

    I regularly also update and check it if becomes usable in WINE, but as of yet... that still does not work.

  • Pretty cool concept, I actually liked the coloured tiles in the start but as they just turn one coloured blueish later, it feels inconsistent. If you remove the golden blocks and keep the green, blue and purple ones, then you have much more variation in your level design.

    I really dig the dance idea to move certain objects and confuse enemies.

  • Ugh yea i can see that... looks like a incompatibility issue of some sort, maybe because you use winXP. I know it is very unlikely but :3 have you tried holding "Left Shift" down and drag the red box? that usually locks to a fixed square, afterwards you could try to align it manually.

    Oh sorry reading through your first post again i must have missed something

    it sounds like you want to use the pen with your left hand and simultaneously control menus and such with your right hand, correct? That is not possible without some third party application that would enable a second cursor on your screen and even then, i am not sure the applications would support multiple actions anyway.

    I can only suggest you to get comfortable with the pen and practice. Drawing with a tablet, looking onscreen is nothing like drawing on paper and it will require practice to master it.

    found a solution it seems. in the config file they refer to, you can specify region size.

    Even though you might have the newest version, if the driver setup have not been modified too much, you should still have that aiptbl.ini config file lying in the driver folder which can be edited. You have to remove your current driver for the tablet, modify the file and install the driver. Repeat that action till you are satisfied with the active area. Normally when you get a tablet brand which is a bit more known, you tend to get such settings in the configuration program you receive with the driver, although it sounds like you do not have it. Maybe you could take a screen shot of the various tabs you have access to, then i can try to help?

    also... If you should ever find need to get a new tablet, i can recommend Huion, they're cheap and the quality is really good, else get a Wacom tablet which is the State of the art of tablets but they are more expensive although the quality is also very good. I own a Huion tablet myself and it is everything i need, no issues and works on both PC and Mac.

    Edit: Sorry i somehow missed your first two lines... so you say it does not keep the ratio? could you please take a screenshot and show me. You should be able to change the size of the active area as much as you like, that means it could be very wide or narrow, it should not depend on your ratio.

    Take a look at my tablet configurations program for example, do have something that look similar?

  • I haven't used a trust tablet before but normally when you install tablet drivers, you get a configuration program installed on your PC where you (depending on your brand) can choose screen or modify active area etc...

    based on the images from the website, you should have (if you have installed the drivers previously) "Pen Pad" somewhere in your Control Panel. I should note that the blog is 2 years old, so some of the steps might not be necessary or look the same.

    Also no i do not believe that having different configuration profiles is possible, although sometimes program ie. Photoshop has its own panel where you can configure brush settings, sensitivity and such for your tablet. I am not sure but i believe GIMP has that too.

  • Why does it bother you that your old "crappy" projects doesn't work now? either fix the bugs if you care about the project or make a new a better one, your post is useless if you don't want help, don't want to fix it yourself and only wish to complain about stuff that was made years ago and doesn't work anymore.

    Did it ever occur to you that your code might be crap and that's the reason it doesn't work anymore? It seems as you only are able to put the blame on everybody but yourself. Construct 2 was heavily bugged and had a lot of problems under it's 1 to 20 releases(my experience), I think it is very optimistic to think that your project would work after 2 years.
