  • I guess you clicked "promote game" and are using adblock.

That's a "known issue", disable adblock and the game will load as intended.

You are correct. Maybe the ads don't start showing up until you get a certain number of views or something? No big deal to me but a bummer that some people probably had no idea and couldn't enjoy it. Only a few told me about it, but I'm sure many more just didn't bother.

  • Just posted a new game in the arcade and it was working but now it seems like it just goes black when using chrome. When using IE it is playable after an ad loads but in chrome there is no ad. I didn't place any ads in the game.

  • Just wishing you good luck with your project and a small piece of advice if this is your first game - start small. Try something similar but on a smaller scale first. You will learn a lot from that first project that will help you with the next.

  • Here is one from the tutorials: scirra.com/tutorials/670/ze ... e-easy-way

For a really simple system, you could just make a global variable for your item. Add to the variable when the player finds more and reduce 1 from the variable when the item is used/destroyed. If the player trys to use the item, just check that the variable is greater than 0 before they can use it.

That's what I did for my simple game "block drop" where there are only two items - squares and rectangles: scirra.com/arcade/puzzle-ga ... -drop-3245

  • I've never published a game or have any experience with publishing a game but I have attempted a few side businesses with a few of them being web related. Maybe my advice won't apply and maybe it's not relevant but here goes:

On the legal side of stuff, don't worry about it yet. How much have you made from your game? if it's zero or close to zero, then don't worry about taxes and the like. If you do start making some money, you can just claim it as personal income and pay your normal taxes until you talk to an accountant. If it's just you, you probably don't need an accountant. Some people going into business for the first time worry about making too much money. Unfortunately, that rarely happens.

You don't need to worry about legal matters of running a business right now. You need to worry about marketing. That is what you should be making a plan for. Months before your product is released you should be building and executing a marketing plan. For something like a game you could be making a dev blog for it or a dedicated website and releasing screenshots and interacting with people interested in the game. You should be gauging interest for your idea to see if it's even worthwhile and getting feedback from users. You should be trying to build buzz around your product.

Marketing is the tough part, not setting up the business. Not even creating the product is as hard as the marketing.

Maybe you are doing all the above and more and I'm preaching to the choir.

    Good luck with it!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I came across Construct 2 a couple months ago and just finished my second game. They are not extremely polished and they could be better if I had the full license and more time but I can't believe how quickly a concept can come together using Construct 2. I have some background in programming so I think that helped a lot. Construct 2 isn't code but you still need to think like a programmer to use a lot of it.

    My process so far:

    1. Basic idea of game (I try to think of something fun that I would like to play.)

    2. Flesh out game mechanics

    3. Build the mechanics in Construct 2 using basic sprites

    4. Make some graphics and add them

    5. Add as much polish as you care to. (Sound effects, particle effects, nice transitions, better graphics, etc.)

The 2 games I have made so far are nothing special but that's what I have done so far. I'm still learning different features of Construct 2 by just playing, reading the manual, and browsing the forum.

I don't have much time as well which makes this pretty cool that I can even accomplish this. I've got a day job, wife, couple kids, and all the things that come with that. So Construct 2 is an awesome tool and time saver for making games. I'm amazed by it.

  • I've been looking for something like this since I started playing with Construct 2 a couple months ago. Just stumbled on it and can't thank you enough. Will be so much easier to do so many things now.

  • I have to give credit to the game for having a market watch as part of game play. I think it would be better to have a game teach people on how to be an indie team. After watching this video--

I liked that video but it seemed focused on just platformers. I wonder about other genre's for mobile. Especially puzzle games with in-app purchases.

  • Hi,

Looking forward to making some games. I would post a link to my first one but I don't have enough rep yet.

    Thanks

  • Would much prefer wasd control (I'm new to construct - I presume that's possible?) so I didn't really play properly because of that. Also the rate of turret spawning seems too rapid - might want to make some delimiter number that rises slowly, so if the total number of turrets equals it it wont spawn any more turrets. Right now it banks on the player destroying all turrets to ensure a steady rate of challenge.

I see potential in it and the rampage style building collapses are neat!

Your in luck! It does have WASD control, I just didn't put it in the instructions. It also has the type of spawn process you described (spawns 1, then 2, and so on to 5 with a max of 15 being created at any one time). I could simply slow the spawn process to make it take longer to get overwhelmed, but being only one level, I didn't see the point. It's not a full game in that sense. It needs levels, powerups, different enemies (ground and air borne), more structures. With the free version all that is limited.

  • I just noticed I don't have enough rep to post links so it was removed. Thanks for going the extra mile and finding it. It would be nice to do more with it, but I can't justify the money for the pro or personal license.

  • Great animations!

  • This makes me want to get a smartphone. Great job on the visuals. Your work on DeviantArt is great as well.

  • I added it to the arcade but never posted on the forum. Maybe you have already played it. This is my first game since discovering Construct 2. Really loving this program and still discovering all it can do.

I wanted to do power-ups, different kinds of buildings (landmarks like the statue of liberty and such), and different land and air enemies but I ran into the free edition limitations.

Looking to do some kind of puzzle game next when I get the time. The lack of families in the free edition is killing me.

    Thanks!
