As we mentioned almost all improvements for the animation product will improve Construct 3 too, as it includes many of the same features. To be able to do even more we need more staff, which means more customers, which a new product could help with!

    • Also, imho, C3 subscribers should have full access to this new program, since they are essentially paying twice for it if they want it.

If people just want the animator then they can just buy that separately.

      • Yep, I'm really surprised it isn't the plan to make this part of the existing Construct subscription.

I've been on the fence about subscribing for a while now and when I saw the gamefromscratch video about this new tool, I thought this would be the thing to swing it for me.

I understand having it as its own lower-price product for people who only want the animation stuff, but I definitely think it should be included as part of the normal Construct subscription.

    • So we can expect the export to video feature to be add to the C3 time line editor in the next beta?

      Thanks.

For the time being 'Export to video' will remain unique to Construct Animate. Currently it's the only feature that Construct 3 does not have. It's much more useful for animation purposes anyway, as games require interactivity to play so can't really be rendered offline as a video. You can however record realtime gameplay videos and such with the Video Recorder object in C3.

        • I love bringing Construct's approach to development beyond coding — hopefully you'll help as many people get into animation as you have with coding. It's a great idea, assuming C3 is

But I agree here, you'll have to be careful about feature-locking. The purpose of Construct vs Animate is distinct, but it'll be easy to have the perception that Animate-only features are being gated off behind a purchase.

It's a fine line separated by purpose; Photoshop doesn't make you buy Illustrator to use vectors. But Illustrator's purpose is vector editing, so it does uniquely feature mesh gradients.

That aside, good luck! I hope this adds many more animators to the planet!

        • Of course i understand your reasoning, but i must pass along my feedback as someone who's subscribed since C3's release, that i feel a bit cheated by what you're doing.

Perhaps have one ecosystem whereby you subscribe and get all Scirra products. That is the subscription model.

          Thanks.

We're going to continue to work hard on C3 as well, and you'll continue to see plenty more updates in future! All the latest updates have kept coming while we were doing some work on Construct Animate in the background, and that will keep going: construct.net/en/make-games/releases

            • I know i sound combative, but please dont be patronising.

You're getting subscribers to fund this new product,(and i'm guessing that like 99% of the code is from C3) then asking those subscribers to subscribe again.

I'm asking you to do the right thing and make this free to C3 subscribers.

              • I didn't read any of what Ashley said as patronizing.

You can do in C3 anything you can do in Animate except export video, which is the hook for it being valuable for some people - mostly likely non-Construct users.
