Found the bug! It's happening on Microsoft Edge browser (for me) but not in Chrome or Firefox.
Could be related to performance issues with MS Edge. Forum link- scirra.com/forum/bad-shader-performance-in-edge_t189156
The keyboard response of an object with platform behavior is definitely slower in Edge. I might have made it worse. Trying to fix.. But game is very much playable in Chrome and FF.
I have changed the control settings and included mouse buttons to better support MS Edge
