You can add invisible big sprite to the player, and if the enemy overlap this sprite then will follow the player, if not will charge left and right.

i think this is the best idea, event best of using line of sight.

1- it depends on many things, if you have (currency,gold,energy...etc) in your game, you can give it for free to player if he watch a video ad, if it like flappy bird use the banner ads.

3-it will run in any device will run the app.
