  • Happy to help. I had to document this a little bit because I knew I couldn't be the only one that loses work to this.

  • Are you losing work in Construct 3's Animation Editor often? This may be your problem.

At first and for quite some time, I've noticed (along with multiple other people) while making an animation on construct there is times that pasting an image would not work. It would seem like it worked in the editor but after closing the editor, the image would be blank.

I simply did not understand it and always considered it to be a bug that would begin to persist.

I've finally figured out the cause of this and I'm not sure if it's a feature I am just not understanding, or if it is just a bug.

It seems like when ever you put "invisible" pixels on the image (excluding the erase tool and the fill tool) the image you are pasting is removed/subtracted from the image in the editor. There are times this may or may not be immediately noticeable, IE: some times the image will be invisible as soon as you paste, sometimes it looks normal, but it will always be gone from the image in the frames window.

This was a problem for me because I usually use the rectangle tool to erase everything.

This can be utilized if you want to subtract an image from another image I suppose... but it mostly seems like a hinderance while trying to make/edit an animation in the construct animation editor. If this is a feature, please show me something that documents it all or in general it should be made more noticeable because it entirely seems like a bug to me.

    To recreate this:

-Create new project (or try it in your own project)

-Create new sprite (or try it with your own sprites)

-(if new sprite) give frame 0 an image

-Copy frame 0 with select tool or Copy (ctrl + C)

-Use any tool other than Eraser or Fill to put down "Invisible"(0 Alpha) pixels (using rectangle or Ellipse/Circle will not recreate this if either of the fill or border is not also 0 Alpha)

-Paste the image - It will remove the image you were pasting, so if it's the same image, it will be gone. If there was some difference in Alphas in the pixels of your pasted image, it will subtract the pixels Alpha. If you paste a smaller image in, it will cut it out.

NOW that I spent the time to figure out the cause of this, it seems so trivial and easy to avoid, but for a while I did not understand it and it bothered me and costed me a fair amount of work. I'm sure there are other people out there who do not understand it and constantly lose animation work, so hopefully my post is found by them and this can shed some light on the situation.

Thanks Nope, no team, just me. I do my own graphics, though I think of myself as a designer/programer rather than an artist. When I finish Nebular Drift I'd like to colab with someone who can really do good art (more than just colorful shapes).

That's awesome man. I find it hard to balance programming and artwork. I'm naturally an artist, i draw, but its nothing like drawing on the computer so i stick to programming. I got lot's o' respect for someone who does it all.

  • I'm working on a platformer in the same vein as Blaster Master, with vehicular and on-foot gameplay.

Maybe I'll try a dungeon crawler next but, since this is my first game with C2, I tend to want to push the limits of what I can do as a way to learn the program and how it works.

that looks like it can be very fun. Stick with it and make it a great game. You can only learn from experience.

Metroidvania is a genre. You can look that up on the Internet. I also gave 3 game examples, if you look them up you'll see what I mean

Ahaha, i sounded so stupid in that post. I completely meant Castlevania, not transylvania. But i see what you mean now, i wasn't 100% wrong. Those games are awesome, and cool that most have like a dark theme to them.

  • A bullet hell shooter with simple geometic/colorful graphics. Called "Nebular Drift":

Some more ambitious stuff in very early stages, but I'd like to finish ND first.

And yes, you can make pretty much any 2d game with C2.

that looks like its coming out very awesome, do you do your own artwork or do you have a team?

I got all the mechanics and systems down, working on level design and overall world design. Fun stuff!

can you be a little more elaborate on that? im not sure what you mean. Metroid prime and transylvania mix?

  • I'm making a tcg/ccg multiplayer game, growing up playing yugioh and pokemontcg makes this genre kind of a dream game to make for me.

I'm still working on the logic and data management because this part is the hardest thing I've ever worked on.

In the end it's up to people whether they're looking for making money out of game or making their dream game. I'm the latter.

Ahh i am a huge fan of pokemon and yugioh as well. I hope all goes well with the logic, i can imagine it gets complicated having all the variables of leveling up and getting stronger.

  • I currently am working on a mini mmo/rpg.

And a very simple retro spaceship game.

I'm really into the RPG's and small minigame type of things.

Allows me to have a big ambitious project, yet still be able to complete and see progress on small projects.

What you CAN make is ANYTHING. If it is 2d it can be done.

I agree, i like rpg's as well. one thing that makes a game for me is open world. Things get a little fishy when making a big open world with lots interactables. I'd like to attempt to make a wide variety of games using construct.

  • Hey everyone, I'm just curious to know what types of games to people aim for or limit them selves to on Construct 2. I know you can make a huge variety, but I just want to know what other people think.

  • I recently added a game to scirra arcade and am looking for feed back about the game.

The game doesn't have good artwork or sound, but I am currently looking for people to work on that.

  • This is an unpaid service so I don't waste time.

I posted a game to scirra arcade recently that doesn't have sound or good artwork. I have someone working on sound, just wondering if anyone wants to do a little artwork for Gem Poker for credit. If this game get's good feedback or get's popular and I make an expansion I will pay the same person to do more artwork.
