  • Hello Construct 2 community,

    For the past few weeks I have been taking my time to learn how to use C2 using Ashley's how to make a platform game tutorial and many others. So far, it's going great!

    However, I was unable to find out how to make a working health bar using my image I created. I couldn't really find a thread that explained how to code a Health Bar this way. I tried making actions when an enemy hit the player to frame 1, in which one heart piece is missing, but then I didn't find out how to make sure it goes to frame 2 where there are no heart pieces available. Another problem I have is that it doesn't stay on-screen as I want it to. I can't figure out how I can make stay on the same position while not being affected by the actual gameplay. This leads me to conclude, that I may have done everything wrong since the first step and I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out, and explain how you guys are doing this.

    Here are the images I created:

  • Hello everyone,

    My name is Andreas, and I'm known as DigitalGreenTea online. Some people call me DGT (Each letter pronounced), as it is easier to say than pronouncing my full name. I live in Switzerland, Europe.

    I started playing video games when I was around 3-4 years old. My family already had gaming consoles like the Atari 2600 and NES before I was born. My first system I played was the SNES, and I've been a lifetime fan of Nintendo since then. My favorite gaming franchises are made out of the Nintendo first party franchises like Super Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and Kirby.

    Since a kid, I was always a dreamer. Dreaming and thinking of worlds that have never been there. One thing I always felt is that love and balance is becoming more uncommon in this world. Therefore, I decided to set my goal to become a game designer, with the intention of making people smile and have fun. It's been a hard way since, and I was coming to a point where I was about to give up. I live in a country where gaming is not popular and doesn't have a good reputation. However, when I first saw Construct 2 and hearing the news of a potential Wii U exporter for the engine, I was stunned. Like a blessing, I knew this was the way to go.

    I'm now learning how to use Construct 2 and I'm having really fun doing so. I try to use as much time as I can to learn it fully. So far, I managed to create a 2D platformer level with enemies and power-ups based on the tutorials on the website. My goal is to create a 2D platformer that's unique, innovative, and most definitely fun.

    I hope to stay as active on the forums as well. I'm a calm person, so don't expect a thousand posts a day, but you'll definitely see me around here and there.

    And with that, I wish you all a nice weekend and simply the best of luck to your goals.

  • You have to assign a picture to your email you use here. Makes no difference what email you used to register. I have tons of emails each with its own gravatar. You have to add each different email to your account and assign a image to that email. Then it should propagate within a couple hours.

    Thanks! I didn't know I had to attach an image to each E-Mail address I have connected with Gravatar. It works now!

  • Hello,

    I have been registered for 4 days now, and my avatar hasn't changed yet. I think it's because I have two E-Mails attached to my Gravatar account, and the one I'm using here on Scirra is not the one I registered my account with. What should I do? I would appreciate it if you could help me out to make it work, but it's nothing to hurry about.

  • Thanks for all of your responses! Yes, I didn't pay attention and forgot to set the type of the instance variable to text. Instead I had it to Number.

    Once again, thank you for passing the knowledge.

  • You probably missed this:

        Set the name to action, the type to text...

    I'm highly unsure what you mean by that... I can't type in "action to left" into the value, if that's what you mean. In the tutorial it says I have to enter "left" into the value section, but it says it's invalid for some reason. I would have to insert int() or float() to it, so it says... but It's not described this way in the tutorial.

  • Hello Construct 2 community,

    I'm a beginner using Construct 2 and I'm currently following the tutorial "How to make a Platform game" by Ashley. I have stumbled upon a problem though, to which I couldn't find a solution yet.

    I'm trying to make the enemy move left and right to "edge markers". To do this, one of the steps is to use the action "Set value to "left"". But it's not working for me properly, it says it's an invalid value.

    This is how it's described in the tutorial:

    <img src="http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/7188/gqr2.png" border="0" />

    This is my situation:

    <img src="http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/6948/vg0q.png" border="0" />

    Can somebody help me out here? I would really appreciate it!
