  • My immediate goal is to stay alive. I am 75 and retired in the Philippines. I have fought off cancer twice so far.

My next goal is to possible make a multilevel Platform game. I am going through one now just to find out how moving platforms ( got that one), change layouts ( sort of got that one.), what I need when I go to a new layout and what I don't, things like that.

If I ever get through that list I may make a good game and publish it for free just to see how it goes.

I also have moving enemies and those kinds of things.

I sort of have a good idea about how to do some of those things. I remembered the bullet action to get an enemy to go straight from one of the tutorials.

I had wanted to get the enemies to go straight and drop in a hole and then re spawn. I sort of have an idea how to do that. I already know one way not to do it. I may have to get that one to hit the wall and die so he can re spawn.

Just crazy things I need to figure out.

As you can probably tell, without my notes, I am lost for the most part.

Thanks for the help. I really need it sometimes and at others I go through the look everywhere and then after I ask for help, I find the solution. That bugs me.

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks. I intend to keep on for now. I also have some really simple game engines but they are not even close to this. They are a good distraction for awhile though.

    Thanks again.

  • I tried Construct 2 two years ago and couldn't quite figure it out.

I am back again and though I am farther than I was before, I still have many problems that no one else seems to have.

I have notebooks and the manual which I wish had an index or table of contents. I look for the tutorials and it always happens that I use the wrong keyword and don't find anything and then some suggests the right word and there are ten tutorials on whatever it is.

I know this is a good program and it is not too difficult for the average person.

You would think that after 40 years in Electronics and being an Instructor for several of those years, I could figure this out. Of course I am not as sharp as I used to be when I was working actively.

I am still plowing through and restarting things when something gets really messed up and I seem to be a bit further this evening than I was yesterday, though I don't seem to have written down the right notes as I cannot find much of what I did today. Most of today was following notes I wrote the day before.

  • Never mind. I figured it out after Lunch.

I had the exit door colliding with the playerbox instead of the Playerbox colliding with the Exit door.

Now that works, I need to place the player and the Playerbox in Layout2.

Thanks for being so patient with me.

  • I seem to be so far behind everyone in this program.

I am making my platform game and I had the guy go up to the top of a narrow passage using platforms.

    That worked fine.

Then I wanted him to go to another layout, so I made Layout2.

My problem came when I looked at the tutorials on changing levels. After sorting them out to get the ones that were actually changing the layout and not just the player level, I found that theirs works and mine doesn't.

I placed a heart at the top and had the player touch it and nothing happened even though I had an event to say go to Layout2. ( I didn't have another player waiting in Level 2.) I used the system to go there in the event.

The transition from Layout1 to Layout2 is my problem.

I am completely lost at this point and I was just called for lunch.

  • I think I have enough information to figure it out from that one.

Thanks again. You seem to always be there for me and it is very appreciated.

    Ken

  • I'll try that.

    thanks.

  • I know there is a tutorial on this somewhere, I just cannot find it.

I want to make my platforms go back and forth.

Ashley makes the snails move back and forth in his tutorial with invisible boxes. Is this the same technique that I would use to move platforms?

Would this affect the Player if he happens to run into one of them?

  • It never asked me. I assumed it was saving it to my computer. ( Local)

Reloading Construct2 seems to have done it so far. I remade a short program and did a save to the default folder.

(I am new to all of this so I really don't completely understand all of what I am doing yet.)

That save worked fine. I haven't reopened it and made changfes as of yet. I think I am going to just use the Control S to save from now on.

  • Anything in a Storm. Will Try and report back.

  • I seem to be having a problem between the "Save as Project" and the "Save" buttons.

If I choose the Save as Project button it saves right away.

If I choose the Save button, it never finishes saving and just shows the saving window with the little green thing going across.

I didn't have this problem before.

I started a new project and only added a background and this takes place so I know it is nothing I am adding in.

the game I am using will have the background from the Jungle tiles, and the tiles from another set that I purchased.

Those are giving me a little problems but that is for another thread.

I cannot figure out what is happening.

    Ken

  • Sorry you misunderstood. I had purchased both licenses. I was unaware of the list on my profile until then.

I have been away for two years and didn't remember purchasing the license in 2013.

Anyway, I have contacted support and I am going to see what they say about it.

It is already done and there is nothing I can do about it now anyway.
