    Hi all!

    I am having some trouble with my game and have spent weeks trying to fix it.

    Although it is unpaid, I am prepared to give you a copy of the game and put your name in the QA section of the credits.

    Your mission should you choose to accept it is to fix the issue so that the level select menu runs as it should.

    I have included 2 capx files. One is the game with bug entitled "One Crazy Knight" or "OCK" and the other is a build of the menu on its own, so that you can see a working example.

    Some things need to be explained first:

    One Crazy Knight is a physics shooter designed for players of all ages and skill levels as it has a 3 star difficulty system built into, much like other games.

    The way this works is the player collects between 0 and 3 stars on the level and then selects "you win" to move to the level select menu and then the corresponding tile on the level select menu is changed to the correct star/locked/open status This way the player can return to the level to complete it again with a higher star rating, thus giving us a variety of difficulties.

    Expected result:

    The level select menu runs as described above with the level sprite tiles changing correctly. By correctly I mean the level progress status of 1 star displaying 1 star, 2 star displaying 2 stars, 3 star displaying 3 stars, open displaying a plain blue square and locked displaying a lock.

    Actual result:

    Currently the level select menu only runs for 3 levels when started from the start menu and the function/feature does not work as intended due to an error in the code.

    My understanding of the problem so far:

    The fact that the game only runs for three levels could mean that the code has been crossed with the 3 star system and that is why it only goes to level 3 and when you try to go to 4, lvl 4 tile is locked on the level select menu.

    The problem could be with code in the level select menu, particularly the start of layout events that reset some variables, although I have made adjustments in this respect so that only the specific variable is reset.

    I feel that this problem may have been caused by my decision to be efficient and build the menu outside the project and then integrate it rather than building it in the game. The reason for this was to save me time if I wanted the menu for future projects.

    It is now clear that this has COST me time, not saved it. The reason that I have told you this is so that others can be mindful of the same mistake.

    Thank you to all that read this and particularly to anybody that is prepared to look into it.

    This is my first project that I intend to go public with and I am pleased with the results so far, although the main menu is not to the standard yet, I like to think that anybody would be proud to have their name on it and I hope you do too.

  • I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the collision masking or the image and/or the origin point because of the way it interacts with the catapult.

    The physics behaviour on the player pulls it to the floor, but the catapult is supposed to prevent this.

    It is a tricky one,but im sure its a simple fix, once its found.... let me know if you cracked it.

    I plan to sort it eventually, but it only appears on one layout for me, so decided to leave it until beta testing to sort it.

  • I see your point, but I was hoping someone would be familiar enough with the software and the templates to help.

    It took me a couple of days, but I eventually realised I needed to reset the global number.

  • I have made a physics catapult game for my nephews birthday, but the player falls out of the catapult when the layout is reset. The template for physics catapult has the same problem too.

    I only have about a week till my deadline and this has me stumped!

    Please help!

    It could help to know that last saturday, the bug (or almost certainly an associated one appeared). Was there an update last friday night?

    It was fine on friday when I closed it, but when I opened it the next day, there it was again.

    I have been previewing it through the local host 50000 and the issue appears 100% of the time, when previewing.

    My system info is Samsung

    6gb ram

    windows 8

    I3 2328

    And I'm running the 132 stable release of C2

    Also, it occurred to me that my success as a developer is somewhat tied to Scirra and as such I should do all I can to help with your bug fixing.

    Plus, any bug fixing experience and knowledge gained is its own reward!

    lastly,

    I would be more than happy to help in a more professional QA and Marketing capacity as part of a Contra scheme in exchange for a personal license?

    Who would be the best person to ask about that?

  • Thanks for the offer, that sounds great, but I must decline on this occasion as I don't have the empty project because I reverted the stripped file back and I did not save it.

    I will take a quick look at what I can do now

    This will be my last post on this subject as I have fixed the problem.

    I was never able to find out what the problem was exactly, but by using the method of stripping back the layout and event sheet I was able to take out between 5 and 10 objects at a time meaning I could work fast, but if the problem was removed I could isolate it to those 5 or 10 objects.

    Unfortunately, the problem was still there after stripping it all out...

    I did not know what to think?

    Almost certain that I would have to start from scratch, I started a new project and copy/pasted all the objects from the layout and started with a new event sheet.

    AND, it all worked!

    I think you can use this method to fix many problems, if you ARE new like me.

  • Hi All, I'm Andrew Martin,3,1 a casual game developer from Hertfordshire, England.

    My best game at the moment is Machinarium on PC and I would love to see C2 used in XBone development...

    I started out on C2 last weekend and almost have a prototype already. I am from a marketing and PR background, but was not happy with how my career would progress over the next 20 years.

    So now I am following my dream to be a part of the best industry in the world!

    So that's' what I'm doing!

    I have been using Game maker with a view to going pro and launching my first platformer later this year.

    HOWEVER, after just a week with C2 i'm glad I did not buy the GM license and fully intend to move forward with C2 on my current project.

    Maybe I'm biased because I want to bring back Britsoft part 2, but also knowing Scirra is based less than 50 miles from me helps, as I know where you work.....Just kidding!

    I'm having the same problem, but have yet to work it out!

    I have stripped it back part of the way unsuccessfully.

    Also I have noticed this post has almost 800 views at Monday night, so I'm guessing that others are having the same problem. So to TipZTV: If you could provide any little bit of extra info please it could REALLY help me find it on my own.

    What was the plugin?

    What type of plugin was it?
