  • Personally I believe it depends on the project at hand, a large scale or larger scale project would require such a document and I wouldn't attempt to create a game without some form of plan down first.

With smaller game projects I use the a 1 to 2 page document to flesh out my idea and if I decide that I like it I further it to a 10 page document and go from there, my larger projects I would definitely create a larger and more traditional GDD.

Ultimately I would say yes I do, but I know that there are people out there who have made it through development on their own without much documentation at all and it's fine to go that route if you're working on your own but it will GREATLY help you to have a GDD when working with multiple people even if it's just one or two.

    My two cents =]

  • I always loved how construct classic supported 3D and helped me to create lot of things that aren't possible in c2 right now. For example I used to create noise and depth to my rock materials. I also had some background props created in 3D that could never been created in 2D. I hope that Construct 2 will support 3D in the same way as CC did, only being less buggy.

That sounds interesting... I guess there could be some great benefits from certain 3d elements being incorporated without going to full on 3d engine which could be cool.

  • I don't want to see Construct 2 move to 3D until 2D games stop being commercially possible, which may be never.

C2 is the best 2D games authoring platform I have worked with to date. If I want to move to 3D, I will use Unity (which is not very good for making 2D games, by the way) or some other engine dedicated to 3D.

I agree with this statement. I tried Unity for a few smaller 2d games and it really isn't good at all for that, but Construct is amazing.

I think that Game Maker handles both 2d and 3d though?

Anyhow Construct is now my go to engine for any 2d game related project, I love this thing!

  • If I had the extra cash on hand to do that, I surely would! Pixel art is probably my favorite digital art form, and it's one I (sadly) know very little about...

Scratch that-I don't know anything about ANY art, rightly... Oh, sure, I took some courses in High School, and I can do JUST this side of better'n stick figures-but an ARTIST I am not.

WORKING on it, though. I'd love to be able to do amazing Pixel Art, and art for some old school top-down RPG/Adventure Games like Final Fantasy, Golden Sun, and Legend of Zelda!

I will be bookmarking this, and if/when I have the money, I'll come back to it!

I was planning on creating some pixel art tutorials around 4 or so months ago before my computer broke down on me, I might continue with it once I get a little further along the wya with my current project but what I wanted to say was, everything he presents in this tutorial you can learn for free, you won't get all of the resources he provides or the still sprite brush he uses but that isn't needed really.

Have a little look on Deviant Art by typing in Pixel Art tutorial, they won't be video tuts but they will have the exact same information and or more.

That being said I think that anyone who has trouble learning from text would greatly benefit from that tutorial series...

When I finally get around to creating my tutorials I will have to make sure I don't duplicate too much information as to what is already out there.

  • Patriick nice one

Thanks... I will upload them on Friday night or Saturday morning for those of you interested, I think I will upload all that I have managed to get done and then slowly add to it over time.

  • This is a great piece of software, I haven't used it for many years now though but I hear of the improvements made and I wish I could grab that student version just to mess around in it and see what has changed first hand.

It's really good for intro video creation, visual effects and animation :P I prefer Maya for that but this would be my go to application if I didn't have it or couldn't get it for whatever reason.

Any student out there that is interested in getting into 3D, I suggest you grab this!

  • Hmmm... I agree with Gamer. Even if you could provide a little sample of the type of 'graphic style' that you're looking for, it would help a lot.

    I found these...

    hirefreelanceartist *dot* com/free-tower-defense-graphics

Sorry but I can't post links until I reach 500 rep so I had to place it like that.

Even if they're not what you're looking for they will work wonders as place holders for you to get your project started.

    Good Luck

    Kind Regards

  • I saw the video and you make a very good sprites, please send the links to me :D

I will as soon as they're done. I have been adding more to them, it shouldn't take too much longer but I got side tracked with 'work' =

I will make a note to PM you once they're completely finished =]

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • OK, I've added a video link to a sample of the assets =]

  • Well after trying to edit the post to fix the error I get an error screen saying that I cannot post links without 500 reputation =\ which is a fail because I already posted links! lol

but Google Reaper and you should find it, if not try Reaper Fm

  • Patriick You pasted the lmms link in place of the reaper one ;)

Btw I agree that reaper is a neat little thing worth checking out

You can even have a fully custom interface, which is really cool for an inspiring creative environment

Ahh, thanks for letting me know. I didn't realize!

  • Thanks for the help guys! I think I will start with paint.net, it should hold me over for a while. And I will try to save money for Photoshop too. :)

Thanks for the links to the audio programs. I will try them all out.

Man, I have so much stuff I need to learn. Feeling a little daunted, but mostly excited. :D

Yeah it can get like that sometimes, just remember, baby steps! It'll all come to you soon enough just keep at it and practicing/learning what you can when you can =]

    Good Luck :P
