  • damainman, Thank you good sir!

  • mineet, First of all thank you very much! It's hard to pinpoint where I get my inspiration from. I love to watch good nature documentaries. Getting lost on wikipedia and into the depths of the internet, watching movies. Hearing stories clients tell at my job, listening to music. And also, every morning at work, me and my colleague discuss the weird dreams we had the night before. Great way to train yourself to remember dreams and a great source for new ideas.

  • harrio, Great! I'll do my best to keep things interesting :)

  • Some sketches with the main character in the middle. I'm not sure about his name yet.

    Hello everyone!

I started working on this project almost three years ago and it's very dear to me. I gave up on it a lot of times in the past due to bad planning and being too ambitious. Worked on and off on this project, sometimes didn't work on it for months. But I always thought about it, kept it in the back of my head and kept on developing the idea because this is the game I really want to make and would love to play. Since I'm actively working on it again now, next to my fulltime job, I decided to start a devlog to keep myself motivated and to get some good critique. Also because doing everything alone can make you blind for the obvious.

I'm aware of the fact that there are a lot of good and bad (survival) horror games out there. This is why I really want to make a good one, even though this is gonna be a big challenge since the game is a 2d sidescroller and horror on it's own is a difficult genre.

That is why I've read a lot of articles about what makes something creepy, how we react when we are scared and how we get scared. I find this very interesting stuff to research.

Also I'm watching a lot of (horror) movies at the moment, and I have seen quite a few in the past because I love horror flicks. Decomposing suspens hopefully helps me to create tension in my game.

I know I'm not making a film but a game, but movies are a great inspiration and help me to get story structures.

    What you can expect

    • A compelling mysterious story.
    • Fully animated characters.
    • A living, breathing world with a lot of secrets waiting to be discovered.
    • Environment puzzles.
    • Original music, produced by myself.
    • A creepy adventure!

    {Terror occulta = Hidden fear}

  • mineet, the tops are not visible because this is just one of the many layers that will scroll along in the game ;)

  • More trees! More happy with these than the last ones I posted.

I'm thinking about starting a devlog on a seperate topic. That maybe more appropriate for these kind of posts.. <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Awesome stuff!

  • > Love the style and the idea of having one level. Interesting :)

Thanks and funny you should mention, as you seem to have really nice art style going on yourself.

Anyways, I've always loved metroidvanias, they make level design a challenge. Also, I tried to add some replay value with the arcades new high score feature.

I'm planning to upload the game there in a few weeks, gotta polish some rough edges first.

Thank you very much good sir. I love metroidvanias too, can't wait! :)
