  • I am thinking of moving to a HostGator Baby account. Anyone with HostGator web hosting - I am wondering - Have you have been able to host C2 games with Spriter animation in them?

I currently use Yahoo Web hosting which is useless as it will not serve the Spriter .scml files nor .appcache or .ogg.

    Does HostGator allow this?

  • New users of Dropbox accounts can still create a public folder which will serve games the old way...but its hidden...check out this link on how to do it. Hope this helps.

  • Problem solved.

Dropbox doesn't have Public folders anymore for new accounts, but you can still enable one - if you jump though hoops.

Check out this link if you are a new Dropbox user. Create a public folder and put your games in there. (this may change in the future but fixes it for now.

  • Hey Rogalog - How do you activate a Public folder these days? I have an old account but a friend of mine just got a dropbox account and there are no Public folders anymore. Just pasting the link to the index.html game file into a web page is not running the game (even if you change the www to dl)to tell dropbox to skip the download file page. Any advice on how you got your game to serve properly off the Dropbox now that they have made these changes?

  • Thanks Rexrainbow! I'll give that a look!

  • Lucid - Just got the announcement that a new version of Spriter is available (Edition b2). Will the current C2 plugin work with that? Also - It would be awesome if the next release of the plugin could display the first frame of the default animation (instead of the current ball of sprites.) This would prevent the Spriter objects from popping into place from the ball of sprites on layout load. I have been initializing Spriter objects off screen and bringing them in as a work around, but it would be awesome if they load in their first frame positions. PS - Spriter will be awesome. I just showed some work in progress to a fellow developer and her was like "WOW That animation is so smooth! How many frames is that?" and I just grinned and told him about Spriter.

  • Also, thanks Mattb for introducing me to instance variables. I have never used them before. Super powefull!!!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Thanks Mattb. That waypoint example is helpful food for thought. I never thought of just using the Is Moving and using collision events to redirect the sprite

Have you tried the behavior plugin MoveTo at all? Just wondering.

  • I'm eventually planning on varying the wait times, and moving the sprite to different locations and then playing an animation etc. What you suggested would work great for the example I gave but I just gave a simple scenario as an example.

I'm really looking for an easy way to build background animation, or learn how to build cut scenes. I was hoping a combination of MoveTo and Waits (along with adding animation changes) would be a way to accomplish this but I still don't know what event to use to trigger it and to let it repeat forever. Am I going about this the wrong way with the Wait action?

  • Hi Guys. This is my first question and I hope its not a dumb one.

I am using the MoveTo behavior by Rexrainbow and what I am trying to do is move a sprite from one position to the next, wait for 2 seconds, move to another position, wait 2 seconds, move to another position, wait 2 seconds, move to the original location...and then have it repeat that behavior.

I have a Sprite Object with the MoveTo behavior Activated with a Max Speed of 400. Original location 100,200.

    Actions include:

Sprite - Set MoveTo target position to (700, 200)

    System - Wait 2 seconds

Sprite - Set MoveTo target position to (700, 400)

    System - Wait 2 seconds

Sprite - Set MoveTo target position to (100, 400)

    System - Wait 2 seconds

Sprite - Set MoveTo target position to (100, 200)

    System - Wait 2 seconds

..so basically the sprites moves around in a rectangle (or wherever I set it to go)

What I can't figure out is how to have the sprite repeat this behavior as long as the layout is displayed. And I don't know which event to use to start it(On layout start would only have it play once)

Can anyone help a Construct 2 newbie out?

I tried using System Repeat but that got ugly. Must be a simple way.

  • Hi Guys,

My name is Alisa - and yes, I'm a chick who makes games!

The first game system I owned was PONG! and then the Atari 2600 (which I still have). Adventure games are probably my favorite genre.

I've worked in the game industry for 20 years, starting out as an animator making sprites for Rocko's Modern Life for the SNES. Since then I have made a bunch of games for a bunch of companies (feel free to check out my website at alisakober.com. But the game industry is hurting like every other industry in today's economy. I got laid off from Day 1 Studios a few years back so I mostly do contract gigs now. So when I don't have a gig, I have been wanting to try to make my own games on the side.

I can design and do art/animation, but I'm no programmer. Seems like Constuct 2 will be perfect for me to start learning how to build games myself.

I looked at Game Maker, Game Salad, and other tools but Construct 2 is the clear winner in my book. Its not only a great tool but the documentation, the tutorials, 3rd party plugins, and the community are second to none. And you support Spriter! I can't wait for that to get further along.

Anyway, glad to be here and I look forward to learning.
