  • I've been looking into making fighting games at some point, but before I can even tackle trying to make one, I'd need to know on how to make motion inputs for these games. I was wondering on where I could see about learning how to make these inputs, or at the least where to start on how to make them.

For context on what motion inputs are, you basically move the joystick in 8 directions, all of them numbered in the same way as a number pad. And by moving the joystick in a certain way and pressing a button you perform a special action... the diagram underneath goes into better detail.

TL:DR, wondering where to go with learning how to make these inputs

  • UPDATE: Okay so I just restarted Construct 3 and... all of a sudden the z-order bar is fixed.

    ...that was a bit strange.

I wonder if anyone else has gotten this issue before.

  • I've been working with this program for awhile now, and I've had no issues with the z-order bar... until now.

For whatever reason, when I'm trying to select the objects in my level, and on the marked "Solid Objects/Obstacles" Layer, none of the objects are able to be selected in the z-order bar. It's led to a roadblock when I'm trying to create levels.

All the layers are unlocked and selectable, and all objects have been unlocked to allow all of them to be selected.

I'm not sure if it's something that I might be doing wrong, or some bug that's appeared... any help or feedback would be appreciated.

  • I usually tend to avoid using loops and the "Every Tick" events as much as I can unless if I DESPERATELY need to... like having tons of sprite objects be tied to eachother based on a variable choosing which ones to add.

I suppose this answers what I asked.

    Thanks for the advice

  • Ah. So... more or less it's a non-issue UNLESS if using the layout debugger

so long you aren't using hundreds of events that go on an "every tick" basis

  • Not including conditions that involve loops, since those VERY OBVIOUSLY lag games made in this engine...

I'm wanting to ask if you can have so many conditions on a single event that it can cause it to start lagging a bit.

If no, then good to hear. If yes... was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on how to make more optimized events.

  • Thanks.

  • This seems a bit archaic to ask, but I'm wondering how can see the total number of events in my Construct 3 project. I'm asking this, since in Construct 2 you were able to see the event counter at all times.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • So... as a sort of bandaid solution... I'm just using Firefox to make games now. Since for whatever reason the bug doesn't happen at all on Firefox. And... I'm now using a seperate program for drawing sprites.

I guess I'll just make-do with this method for now.

Still really stupid that it happens to begin with though.

  • *breathes in*

    Oof.

  • I should probably also mention I'm using the Microsoft Store app of Construct 3... also the problem has nothing to do with freezing. It actively crashes and destroys all the work. It doesn't freeze my work, it completely destroys it.

  • At any point while using Edge or Chrome, I would be working on my games and this would happen. At ANY given time. This bug is completely random, and it's only been happening BECAUSE I'm using Construct 3.

It's completely unpredictable and so far I have not found any way to actually prevent it.

I turned off my browser add-ons? It still happens.

I try renaming the .exe file of the browsers, all it does is make the browsers completely unusable. And then I no longer can use the browsers, effectively making Construct 3 useless.

I seriously need to know how to fix this. Entire hours of work are lost at random every single day I work with this program because of it.
