  • Okay, thanks!

  • So i'm trying to make a sort of top-down game (not a shooter), and I've tried looking through some of the camera tutorials and I couldn't seem to find what I wanted.

I want the player to be able to move freely without the camera moving, but if they move past a certain point (depending on the layout shape and size) the camera would follow the player and they would be kept in the middle until they reach one of the layout's sides.. For example, if the player is moving across a layout they just entered there should be no camera movement. However, if they move further away from the beginning of the layout to the point where they are in the middle of the y-axis or the middle of the x-axis (or both) of the screen, the camera would follow until they hit the end of the layout.

This may sound really simple, but when the player hits the middle, they start moving faster than the ground. I've tried editing the parallax of the layers I have, and either the player won't stay put in the middle (they move far off the screen) or the player is stuck on one side of the screen (the layers move, but the player's position on the screen stays to the left and doesn't move around, just moves on the layout). I want this to work with an object that will be used as a camera, just for the use of cut scenes. Is it because of my layout size? Any property I am missing? Please help!

  • Nevermind, something was bugged out before.

  • Uh, for some reason this behavior doesn't work on my project? I'm just trying to set it as constant shaking for text, and it stays still. Is it my version of Construct 2? (latest version)

  • Thanks everyone! I didn't know before that the origin point affects that I'm still trying to learn everything in Construct 2.

  • Sorry if this question was asked already, but I haven't found one that answered this.

How do you make a health bar (horizontal or vertical) decrease in length from max length to 0? I'm trying to make a platformer game of some sort, and it requires a health bars for the player and enemies. Every time I make a health bar lose value (or "health"), it loses its length on BOTH sides of the bar, meaning it looks odd when the entity it is for loses health. I want ONLY the top (for vertical) or the left (for horizontal) side of the bar to shorten until the bar depletes. Plus, it should work for bars that have different colors for design, or bars that have outlines without making them look stretched. I've been stuck at this for a while now, and I can't figure out how to solve this.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Thanks everyone! I'll take all your suggestions in consideration.

How do I post my capx file? I never did so, and I don't know how.

  • PixelPower:

I understand that this way works, but I'm coding a 25+ levels game, and I feel like that this is just way too much work that clutters the work space, even if it is a copy and paste thing. Any way that this could be made simpler that uses less coding, but still works for 20+ levels?

No, I'm not using for each. I just set it to 'If animation frame = 1, go to "level" & SelectionButton.level_Number' (SelectionButton being the buttons in the level select, level_Number being the instance variable that shows what level each button is for). Then, I set 'If animation frame = 0, play sound (whatever sound i want)' which means the button is locked. I also have it like, 'if (global variable) is > or = to SelectionButton.level_Number, set ani frame to 1', and 'if (global variable is < SelectionButton.level_Number, set ani frame to 0'. Is there something that is off with this coding? I don't know why it doesn't work.

  • I've been trying to make a level select menu for a bit now, and at first it seemed to work. But once I incorporated what color the level buttons are (based on if they are locked or not), it went downhill. Every time i changed it, it either locks all the levels or unlocks all the levels. I even used another person's template with a level select menu, but it still doesn't work. Please help!

  • Okay thanks! I was still really having trouble until I read this. This seems like it will work.

  • Thank you for telling me this. I hope it works now!

  • I made the options menu and the sound bar. I just have a problem with spawning it in without having to set it invisible, as every time I try to spawn it in when the options menu is open, it doesn't show.
