  • That works, thanks!

  • If I understood the video I looked up right (haven't played it) that looks about right. He has to constantly "jump" up in order to stay afloat, right? Or does he not sink if you don't press any buttons? If you don't want him to sink, you can add to the "on contact with water" code so it adjusts the gravity too.

  • I kinda do. Hmm... how to do this...

I don't have a way to share my demo (My computer doesn't like Dropbox apparently.) BUT you can do something that changes your character from 8 Direction mode (New band name idea! ^.^) back into Platformer mode once he leaves the water, either by overlap detect or collision detect with an object on the surface. I'd go with the object on the surface so it uses less power and performance. I'd then use a bit of code that translates to this: "On collision with surface, [INSERT whatever you did to flip the switch between platformer and 8Direction here] and adjust Vector Y to 300" or something.

...Does any of that make sense? I can tell it's a lot of words.

  • I can't figure out how to make a crate that my character can shove around. I got the part down where it falls and lands on the floor, but it doesn't work right. How do I make something that a player can kick around without it going through walls? Apparently at the moment it's a phantom ball.

What I did was give it a Physics behavior and a Platformer (controls-none) behavior, but there's probably a better way to do it. My next step would have been to make it kickable. I figured out how to make it jump when someone touches it, but I can't figure out how to make it know which way to go. What I'm missing is some kind of where-did-that-kick-come-from detection. Anyone know how to do this?

  • I'm trying to work on a game engine (Just the objects to be used.) but I'm having trouble. I'm trying to figure out how to make something like a crate for a platformer game. You know, a block that can be pushed around without it falling through the walls. I tried the physics thing, but it doesn't work. Please help!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I exported my project to a folder on my desktop, zipped it up, emailed to a friend and they opened the index.html to run, worked fine.

Hmm... really? I'm going to try it again.

It opened, it had a title, but the browser only shows a black screen. No interactive stuff or anything. But maybe it's because I tried it with the beta version...

  • I don't think that the file opening thing is the limitation. I open local HTML files all the time, albeit without javascript. I even tested it on several. IE: Yes Chrome: yes Firefox: yes Maxthon: yes

  • Wait, I can't run it without a server? Can't I just open the HTML file in a browser when I'm done? I'm not sharing it exactly, my idea at the time was a presentation somewhat like a powerpoint (but more interesting) and it was just going to be used between two computers. And no I can't use the CAPX file because I wanted to use it for a presentation on another computer using a flashdrive, so no Construct. I could try convincing my teacher at school to install it, but that's probably going to be denied.

  • Is there a way to directly export to HTML5 in the free one, without submitting it online? While I do think it's cool that you can share for free, I have some smaller projects I want to save that I don't really think are worth sharing with EVERYONE, and one time I tried making a presentation using this, and it didn't work at all because I couldn't figure out how to export it as something USABLE. I would share if I had something worth sharing, but I don't, and yet, I do still need to use it. Does that make any sense?

  • Hey there! I'm working on a project that would look something like a retro Mario game, but here's the new story: DODGEBALL ARMAGEDDON! The school starts a dodgeball tournament, and you, being the nerd, get singled out and chased out of the school! Your only hope for survival is to run like crazy! Jump, duck, slide, and throw dodgeballs at randomly obstacles in order to get away!

Here's where the trouble starts. I don't know how to make a game with randomly-generated objects. What I want is for one of 7 sets of objects to appear (Maybe 2 for a demo.) and each set included ground that stays level plus either a cue for a dodgeball to be thrown from behind, a hurdle (street and car), a thing to slide under (Fence?), a platform with coins or dodgeballs (Fire escape), or a "gate" that can be busted with a dodgeball (Stylized as a bully after I get code working). Can this be done easily? Thanks!
