  • This is perfect, just what I was looking for.

    Thank you very much!

  • Hi!

I am working on a small prototype 1 versus 1 fighting game and I want to detect which character is getting damaged during combat.

Each of the characters is in the same family I labeled as "Fighter", the reasoning was so I could create the combat logic once for the family instance and it would work the same regardless of which character was fighting. The issue I have come to is during the interaction between two instances of the "Fighter" family.

Currently my logic asks if one character is in the ATTACKING state AND is overlapping another "Fighter". If this is true I want the other "Fighter" to go into their DAMAGED state.

My question is, how do I identify the other "Fighter" that needs to be damaged? Because they are in the same "Fighter" family, I am not sure how to distinguish one from the other in the logic.

I am hoping someone here may have come across this already and could share some insight on the correct solution.

    Thank you!

  • Fun concept and nice visuals!

You should look for a rag-doll plugin, I believe I saw some going around on the forums somewhere.

Personally I find it inconvenient how the character goes out of the screen up top and stays out of reach for quite some time, leaving me waiting indefinitely. I also feel like pushing the character horizontally should feel more responsive, it's a bit sluggish.

Thanks for the feedback, all great points! I didn't even think about the ragdoll but now that you mention that it could be really fun thing to add. I will take a look and see if I can find something!

I might look into having the camera follow the character past the top of the screen, it would need some tweaking but it's doable. I agree about the character push, need to lessen the amount of dampening right now to give the player more freedom in the combo.

    Thanks!

  • Hi!

I have had your very same problem in the past and even tried solutions very similar to what you describe. Unfortunately those solutions never gave me the smooth push back I was looking for.

Then I discovered Rex's "Move To" add on for C3. Probably one of the most useful add-ons for my purposes and I think it will solve your push back problem well. Basically you can tell any object to move relative to it's location and specify the speed at which it can move. There is a lot more things you can do with it as well, but the basic 'Move To' behavior is super useful in itself.

You can find it in this thread:

    I hope that helps!

  • Really good job here. Great polish and attention to details. Good UX as well .

    Nice work!

  • Hi everyone! I read somewhere on the forums that it was necessary to wait 24 hours for games images to be updated. Is this another problem? Finally, I noticed that the Scirra Arcade documentation was not showing up (with Chrome). Is it the same for you? Thanks!

I am not sure about the images. The issue we are talking about is that there is an error that comes up when trying to update, so the update will not come through at all.

I am seeing the Scirra Arcade documentation issue you mentioned as well. I didn't know it was a Chrome issue, I thought the page was just completely broken .

  • I got a support email response from Tom. It sounds like they are working hard on the new arcade and won't be able to fix this issue in the current Scirra Arcade unfortunately.

So the alternatives are to host your game on another site ( Newgrounds, Kongregate, etc ), or instead of updating your current Scirra Arcade game just upload a new project instead (Then delete the old version).

The new arcade should fix this issue so you can always wait for that to be unveiled as well .

  • I just got this bug too. Any updates?

Not yet unfortunately. I have yet to get a reply from my support email regarding this. I decided to move my game release over to Newgrounds until this issue is fixed. NG is actually pretty cool in regards to game dev management and API tools, you may want to check it out. It runs html5 games perfectly, and you can update your game with no issues .

Tom said in another thread they are getting a full time Web Dev in April. So maybe this will be on their list to fix, although he also said they won't be fixing any current issues as well .

  • I sent a mail off to Scirra support, hopefully they can help. However I just saw Tom's recent thread saying they aren't going to fix ongoing issues until the new arcade is released.

I am not sure if that means this problem isn't getting fixed, or if he was referring to other requests. I guess we will see.
