Yep, OBS works quite nicely. I use Handbrake to compress the result afterwards.

I totally agree. Unfortunately, IIRC, Ashley dismissed the idea to the realm of 3rd party plugins (like Spriter). I hope he changed his mind since then...

Sure, for IK-based animation Spriter more than suffices. But a timeline (such as the one I described) is nonetheless an essential ingredient (at least for me) - I worked with other products in the past that had them, and I really miss having one in C2. I do hope Ashley realizes at this point that a timeline in Construct 3 would be a non-brainer, and a primary reason for many C2 users to upgrade.

Godot (free), Unreal Engine (free), Animate CC/Flash (commercial), Blender/Blend4Web, and others all have timelines. Unity (free/commerical) is getting one soon. I worked with the first four, and a proper timeline is just very convenient to have as a tool. Spriter is a good plugin, but not a replacement.

For C3 to remain competitive, I feel Ashley must surely have realized by now that the lack of a timeline in C3 is not really an option anymore. At least, I do hope so for his sake and Construct 3.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. It does show that C2 still does have limitations - I would like to see any number of lights in a game level, which does not seem to be possible at the moment.

I have been looking into Godot as a potential development option for my next game, and their isometric dynamically lighted 2d level demo is quite impressive. I hope C3 will allow us to work with both isometric and dynamic lighted games.

  • I agree, the GUI looks and feels somewhat outdated. Last time I used Multimedia Fusion was over 12 years ago - not that much has changed.

Still, install creator is a nice bonus.

  • We had a Clickteam Fusion and Construct 2 comparison thread a while ago, and for those who would like to compare the two, but lacked the financial resources (or , what better chance than getting Fusion with the newest Humble Bundle deal.

I still very much prefer Construct 2, though. I feel Fusion is targeting a somewhat different market. But it is certainly nice to have access to both tools - especially when you work on a Mac as well as Windows (since Fusion seems to work on Mac now).

And a free copy of Install Creator is actually quite handy as well.

*Edit* after investigation, this is the standard edition of Fusion: meaning a restricted distribution licence (the standard version requires that you include a "made with Fusion" logo in your work).

  • Would be interested to see this. Any chance someone could share the capx?

A while ago I cleaned up my server, and accidentally removed these files as well. I've re-uploaded them again - the links in the first post are fixed.

  • If it's just a simple point and click first person type game, I would say simple knowledge of html, css, and javascript is all you would need. You would have to build an interface around this.

However, many of those "simple" games of old also introduced all sorts of puzzles and mini-games. A point and click game with mini games can be easily constructed (pun!) in Construct.

Btw, communication design: where are you located, if I may ask?

  • This is a free 2d cutout animation addon for Blender, similar to Spline and Spriter, which exports currently into Godot.

    Github & details:

A Photoshop exporter script is included to export your 2d character directly into Blender.

The armature is simple to setup, and even weight painting is supported for full control over how the armature affects elements. All the animation tools in Blender, such as a dope sheet and full animation curves can be used to animate with.

    Supported features

    • multiple animations per character (running, standing, jumping, etc.)
    • rotation for elements
    • scale deformations for elements
    • opacity/alpha for elements
    • z-depth control for elements
    • tiling
    • Elements in your character can consist of one or more frames. This allows you to switch out parts for different ones (for example, blinking eyes, feet in various states, depending on the animation, or the animation frame.

The animation is exported to a JSON file. The addon and Blender are free, which would be a great alternative to both Spline and Spriter. A Godot game engine importer is already available.

I hope someone here will take up the challenge to create an importer for Construct.

  • I got TNP bundled with the latest weekly HumbleBundle deal - it's excellent! It reminds me of those 2d top-down Amiga racers. Fun to play. And the graphics are butter smooth on my machine.

Nicely done - 8.5 out of 10 from me. Rather humbling to see one man, Aurélien Regard, do all of that on his own. The art style fits the game wonderfully well.

Btw, the third level kept repeating "final lap" the first time I played. Second time around, it worked.

A question for the developer: I noticed many of the PNG files are not very well optimized in the final version, causing the in-game graphics to be often up to three times larger than necessary (visually). Any reason for this? Time constraints?

Also, the static backgrounds are saved as 256 colour versions, which suffer from a lot of dithering, which leaves me to wonder why high quality jpg files at much reduced file sizes were not used instead?

Thank you for your hard work. I am really enjoying playing the game.
