  • Yes you are right Steam is already great for indies but it doesn't mean their is no room for another player ! Additionnaly it's Hacker friendly which is interesting ... who knows what a nation of hackers can imagine/create.

    In someway this strategy remind me the one of Facebook at the beginning:

    " I create a platform and i let you guys add whatever you want on it, we both earn money and increase the community" in FB case we need to add " untill I change my mind and the rules" :)

    Well I would suggest not to look after money while making indie games as a hobby.

    It's like making a blog and starting by adding adsense everywhere.

    The 1st reward as an online contributor or indie game maker is having people playing your games and enjoying it. Money comes last.

    So here is a follow up !

    So far in Metalslug like games we can't go back and we scroll the player not from the middle ! And thx to Kyatric this now happening.

    In Metal slug very often the camera stop until the hero kills all ennemies. When it's done there is a smooth camera movement which set again the player at 40% of the screen.

    I had difficulties to find out how to have this smooth camera movement but I did something which is very close to that! At least I hope.

    So let me know if i am right: basically I change Kyatric formula and used lerp to have a smooth scrolling effect after killing all ennemies.

    You need to jump on the sprite 500 (ennemy) to kill him and see the effect i was looking for

    on left arrow simulate platform left ... etc.

    You need some on release stuff so that it doesn't stay on last frame animation i guess !

    Fan games = Free advertising for a company ! and there is nothing better than that especially in a game made by an independant it goes directly to your brain without thinking it's an ad.

    Till you don't make money and specify it's not yours and don't destroy the image of the brand /character(real fan games)

    Then unless you are making a game played in top Facebook am not sure they will care about you.

    The first to hear from copyright infringement will be the distribution platform ( they make money with your games through ads). If you don't make your own website and don't host it and don't put your family name on it am not sure they will spend times to look after you.

    Seriously they will need to get the IP from the distribution platform and then ask the ISP ... They will just warn the distribution platform at max !

    Here it's just to explain why fan games makers are not yet in jail ...
