  • I don't believe in some magical end of the world. I was being facetious.

I do however believe in the possibility of the slow decline of civilization due to resource over-usage and civil strife. And zombies, of course.

  • Looks more like a GameMaker alternative. There are alternatives to Construct as well... have you seen Game Develop?

This is why I love Scirra. I have never seen another developer who not only promotes discussion of the competitors on their forums, but also provides links to their products. Confidence FTW!

  • Here is a simple example of something I've used in some projects. It basically keeps a state of awareness for the enemy, and when changed to a different state, reacts appropriately.

Use WASD to move the player. When you get within 180 pixels, the enemy goes into an alert state. When you get within 90 pixels, the enemy turns and attacks the player.

  • This thread has been a very interesting read. I can see everyone has their opinion, usually supported by relevant facts. As someone else said, I think it boils down to what your intentions are for making games.

I am in the position of having some pretty specific projects in mind that are not very graphically intensive, and which I want to be fully web-based. I am also not looking to make any (or much) money from making games.

I can see how, if your position is different, that the pace and lack of platform coverage could be frustrating. It is a very interesting and dynamic time to be making indie games, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Game play over graphics, for sure. Even with minimal graphics, as long as they are consistent and styled for the game, you can still have a popular game if the mechanics are good.

  • I suppose next time i could do a little searching and figure that out. <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I keep getting the "Assertion failure: cr.plugins not created" error when i try to open the capx. I verified I had the latest version of dataStructures and RandomPlus installed. I can also open other capxs.

    Weird.

  • I have been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead 2 Versus. I have found that trying to find a good team, and dealing with the idiots in that community, to be sort of like a psychological adventure game. It can be just as much (if not more) fun listening to the whining and b*tching, than playing the game itself.

Also some Global Agenda and Tribes:Ascend, mostly for one thing: JETPACKS!

  • SullyTheStrange, if you need something now, perhaps I could throw together a "KeyboardPlus" plug-in, which would basically be the native Keyboard plug-in with the Keycode expressions integrated in.

That way, you would just use the one KeyboardPlus plug-in in place of the other two.

    What do you think?

  • Unfortunately, no. It appears that the Keyboard plug-in is overriding the Keycode plug-in. Except that it works in Firefox. rexrainbow wondered if it might be the same bug as the keyboard/mouse bug. Any opinions?

  • Yeah, you're right. I normally have Chrome selected as the default browser, so I just assumed I was using Chrome, but I was testing in Firefox. The problem still exists.

I will work on it some more.
