  • If you are referring to the internal help files of the program, they are non-functioning at this time. Scirra crew has said they are working on this and it will be appearing in a future release.

If you are referring to the 404's on the site, I believe the broken links are a result of migrating from their old site and I don't know if they have plans to update the links or not.

They are really great about offering help though, so if you hit a snag, just post your questions and someone will usually respond pretty quick and help you out.

    Have a nice day!

  • Well hello, Kyatric;

Hope you are well. I'd like to respond to your post by sharing my thoughts.

I'll begin with the most obvious and that is from a consumers point of view. As a buyer or user of a product, this particular product, I have a certain level of expectation when it comes to learning tools and them being easily accessible.

My point is, why would anyone want their users/customers to have to look for a working link or require them to use a workaround in order to get to the working link? Why not fix the broken links so your customers can learn and make games since that is why they procured the product in the first place? Whether your customers bought it or not is a mute point, as keeping your customers happy and content is what matters here, so they continue to use and support your product!

Secondly, C2 users still must rely heavily on CC tutorials since there are not as many C2 tutorials as CC tutorials yet.

Thirdly, the CC platform tutorials are much more in depth whereas the C2's are more limited in scope, which means the user is required to spend additional time searching for solutions and less time making their games. Which again brings us back to the site and needing to weed through all the broken links and scour the forum in search of answers.

I'm just a new user, trying to learn and offer suggestions based on my experiences with using Construct. Just sharing my experiences for future reference.

Thanks for responding. As always, it is appreciated!

  • Anyone have plans to update the platform school tutorial links on SourceForge.net? Lessons 3-9 give the dreaded 404 file not found message.

Broken links equate to broken dreams, er, I mean broken games! <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Not to offend, but all the dead links do not reflect well on this great game making program or the wonderful, hardworking people who comprise it.

Help! I think Scirra needs to hire the dead link police, STAT!!

And yes, I did download the lessons provided by DeadEye, but I still think the links need to work so potential Construct purchasers aren't dissuaded by things that are broke or don't work as one would expect they should.

    Thanks...

  • Hooray! That will make your wonderful program look and feel soooo much more polished and professional!

    Keep up the great work!

  • Thank you, Tom! Dang, I guess maybe you had too much fun on vacation and now your brain is still in the Bahamas or something! (Yuk, yuk!!)

  • I know you folks are hard at work to improve the program itself with new features and such but it would be a real benefit if the help files within the program didn't all direct to dead or broken links.

Any plans to implement this much needed feature anytime in the future?

    Thanks!

  • Hello Kyatric,

I clicked on both your links and received a 404 to the download itself, the link to the page works, just not the download link.

    Thnx.

  • Hello,

Cannot update as the download link generates a 404.

  • Hello Kyatric,

Thanks so much for taking time to provide the example. Yes, I noticed the gap returned and sometimes it appears as if they actually overlap on occasion during the scroll as well.

I concur with you that this may not be the most prudent way to proceed and I have searched the forum and see that layout size shouldn't be an issue so perhaps I will just duplicate the sprites (dunes, clouds, etc) and make my layout large enough to complete this portion (level) of the game with the parallaxing layers to achieve the 3D effect on the distant objects/scenery/ground, etc; saving the actual platform effects for another game level entirely.

I am obviously missing a large portion of the concept to the platform games unless they are actually duplicating sprites in order to achieve the appearance of the scrolling effects that you see in so many of them, and implementing a large layout to achieve the illusion. I was under the assumption that things were happening in the background via the infinite tiling/scrolling layers.

I have opened most of the examples already, which could very well be adding to my confusion. I get something working just right and then think I'll try something else and before you know it, I've torn everything up. I suppose we can just call that, part of the learning process!

Thanks again for all you do, it's truly appreciated!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I'm running Firefox as well and that fixed by problem with the gap in my other game but I have made a duplicate of the game to test parallaxing layers and I tried setting the bound to layout on the sprite but that didn't work with parallax so now my little player still drops off into the abyss! I was not sure if we could tile backgrounds (like the sky and dunes) as you had shown us and still use parallax with our other sprites. (??)

Thanks for helping us with the gap, Kyatric. It is most appreciated!

Here's my capx with the parallax layers. I have them set for minimum movement just to see if I could get it to work. Basically I want this particular view to tile repeatedly for the first level of my game, with my player not plummeting off the right-hand side of the screen!

Advice to achieve this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your time.

    Capx

    Have a nice weekend!

  • Hello Ashley,

I believe taking time off means you're totally away! No popping in, popping by.... Besides, I believe that you have left things in Kyatric's capable hands. So, go get lots of R&R and Kyatric can tell you all about it when you get back on the 8th!

    Enjoy yourselves!

  • Thanks, Wink... I'll give that a try and see if it works.

Hello Kyatric! How are you? I appreciate the response and will surely post my capx if the suggestion to bound the layout on the layer my player is on does not work. I'm trying really hard to learn by looking at the examples provided, but sometimes the more you read and the more you change things, the worse it gets! lol....

Have a nice weekend and I'm sure I'll be supplying my capx just as soon as my hair thins enough that I can see my scalp!! Don't want give up and quit trying too soon! haha...
