• I just have a couple of minor questions, maybe too minor to be making a thread about it, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to post it.

Within the layout editor, you can toggle a grid on and off, change its' size etc... my first question is if it's possible to change what the grid looks like? What I mean is that the default are dotted grids which are pretty hard to see because the dots are kind of small. Is it possible to change it into a more tradition grid?

My other question is if it's somehow possible to zoom out in the layout editor?

These two questions are in the hopes that I can make level designing a little easier for myself.

  • That's really cool, I wonder if he got the inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Hm, I've heard of Zbrush, but I've only ever seen it used for sculpting 3D models.I'd also be interested in a tutorial on using it for 2D.

I use Graphicsgale and at times, Gimp.

Graphicsgale is very good for what you might call "Pixel art". It's nice and straight forward, and best of all: free. If you're just getting started with drawing characters, I recommend tracing over old sprites (Such as 2D Mario or Link etc.) to start off, it really helps you out.

Gimp is like a free version of Photoshop, with many of the same features.

  • Excellent job, I agree with what shinkan was saying; I wouldn't have known you were new to this had you not called yourself an amateur.

It does make me worried that you stopped counting how often it crashed on you though... yeah, not looking forward to that happening to me.

  • It's unfortunate that the file links haven't been transferred, as the 'ghostshootertut.zip' link includes both the .cap and the full instructions in html.

Maybe some kind soul who still has it could re-link temporarily for you via dropbox (fingers crossed).

I've hunted through my backups and found that file. I'm currently creating a dropbox account so will give the link when I've worked out what to do!

    Here ya go:

    Perfect!

Thank you for all of your help zenox, now I can get started... can't wait to see what Construct is capable of.

  • Would anyone be interested in writing up a tutorial for ghost shooter? There's a cap available, but I don't really know enough about the program to be messing around with it without any directions. The original tutorial was probably lost when the site change happened, so would anyone be interested?

  • Thanks for your help zenox, though without any directions I'd rather not start playing around with it. I've made that mistake before. :P

Maybe I should ask someone to write up a tutorial in the request thread?

  • I was looking for alternatives to Game Maker. I didn't hate it or anything, but got off to a bad start with it and could never truly learn it well enough to make the games I was thinking up. So I was looking for a fresh start. I literally typed into google, "Game maker alternatives" and came across this: gamemakerblog.com/2009/01/05/5-reasons-why-construct-is-better-than-game-maker

I liked what I saw and decided to join up here. Seems pretty nice so far.

  • The password issue is for the most part solved Tom (Thanks by the way), but there is one bug that seems to be lingering. When I changed my password again, in the next screen it takes me to where it asks me to log in afterwards, the password still doesn't work..., but strangely enough on every other screen my new password worked fine. So on that one screen after changing the password, it didn't work for me for some reason.

  • > I get a 404 error when I use the link. Is this happening to anyone else?

This is a new forum launched on a new server etc. Some links will not work until fixed by the uploader - hopefully soon

Hm, seems like something the web developer needs to handle based on the new message I'm getting when I use the link. Thanks for the info though,I guess I'll just have to wait it out.

  • I'm also having the same problem. I tried changing my password a second time just in case I might have made any spelling errors, but I still seem to need the temporary password.

  • I get a 404 error when I use the link. Is this happening to anyone else?
