Thanks ROJOhound, that's fixed it.

The wiki says that if you do a transition to the current layout you get a restart. I have a global variable called curlevel that starts at 0 and goes up 1 every time the player hits a checkpoint that teleports them to the next level. When the player dies by hitting a wall or enemy they play an animation and when that is finished I wait and then go to layout global(curlevel). The problem I'm having is that when the player hits a wall in the last level it crashes.

Is there an easier way to implement this? Is there a way to specify current level rather than a number in the transition function.

That's a good idea. I tried it and it works OK but they bounce around in different directions. Is there a good way to constrain them to left/right or up/down (ie 90 degree angles) only?

The offset idea is good but I'm still not sure how to get the enemy to bounce correctly. Setting angles doesn't seem to work, the simple bounce action doesn't work (although one of the enemies bounces in that case ???), and doing a rotation doesn't really work either.

I can't get this to work. If I try to rotate they get stuck/bounce off at random angles from the things they bounce off, if I try setangle they get stuck on the second bounce after working correctly the first time. I just want enemies that bounce back and forth and change direction every time they bounce.

I have an event that won't activate and I have no idea why. I tested the various prerequisites and they all happened fine, so as far as I can tell its just bugged or something. The event is the 2nd weapon attack one, the attack 1 works fine, but when you hit the 2 key to switch to weapon 2 it doesn't let you do the weapon 2 attack.
