  • A sample is really not needed, as it's the mechanical process of drag and drop that is at work here. A sample would just show an animated sprite, which is effectively useless.

Just start a new project, then drag any .gif from your PC and drop it onto the Layout anywhere. The .gif will be turned into an animated sprite.

If you're not comfortable with the Drag and Drop process, then the long way is to Press right mouse and select 'Insert new object'.

Choose sprite and click anywhere on the Layout. The Image Editor will automatically launch, allowing you to create or load your graphic for the sprite. In the 'Animation Frames' window, press right mouse and select 'Import Frames' and navigate to where you have your .gif file. The gif will be loaded and split into it's original frames.

  • A gif can just be dragged straight onto a Layout, and a sprite will automatically be created with all the individual frames from the .gif.

Flash files are not supported, nor will they ever be.

  • Latest downloads are always shown at the bottom of the page.

  • It looks there is still an issue with deleting games at the moment.

If you are desperate to stop people playing your game for whatever reason, just do what I did and create a new version for export that just had the main screen but the rest of the game is gone - so it's actually unplayable - and update the online game.

When Tom gives us the new arcade, supposedly we'll be able to delete our games ourselves, which would save a great deal of messing about.

  • That's a good question, and I'm unsure of the answer. Maybe Ashley can say whether IE is needed to preview C2.

  • Is this for real? aruche must be Ashley's favorite

    Here's a few thoughts.

I can usually guess when Ashley is going to make a release as he suddenly becomes VERY active in the Bugs section, trying to squash as many as possible.

The release also nearly always takes place on a Friday.

So my guess is some people could be using 'Auto Refresh' hacks on a potential URL - i.e. the next should be 'https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r170' - and this means they will nearly always be the first to get the release.

It should be easy enough for Tom to check if this is happening, and if so, stomp on it very hard!

  • That's usually caused by not setting the animation speed to zero.

  • Are you unable to preview ANY example, even the ones that come with C2?

You could try a vanilla install.

Start by uninstalling, reboot, then either delete or move the remnants of the previous installation (you may just want to move it if you have a few plugins and behaviors that are non-standard and you still want them).

Install C2 and try one of the built-in templates.

    Does it preview?

If you have a licensed version, have you tested the Node-Webkit preview?

  • Many thousands of people are using the latest version, so I doubt that the problem is with the software. It is much more likely that a GPU or OS update or something you've installed that is the issue.

It's not inconceivable that C2 is the problem, but it's unlikely, or many, many more reports would have been posted.

  • The text object is a little limited, but if you used a sprite object - just an plain oblong with text on it - then you could easily do something like the attached.

    Is this what you mean?

  • There is a Match 3 tutorial here:

    http://gamedevelopment.tutsplus.com/tutorials/make-a-match-3-game-in-construct-2-the-basics--gamedev-8071

It may not be exactly what you are after, but many of the mechanics involved are covered such as matching, dropping etc.
