  • Did you work on Great Dungeon in the Sky's graphics?

    Anyway, great tutorial!

No I didn't. But the graphics style is heavily influenced by oryx + oddball's work for the TIG SOURCE Assemblee competition (where Great Dungeon in the Sky got it's graphics).

    Thanks

  • OK here's the cap.

Haven't sorted the bugs but I figured if I posted it someone else could make some improvements. Not very well commented so if you have any questions fire away.

If you want just square rooms:

Event 4 - Change this floorregion: Set Animation Frame to random(13)+1 to 1

    Please post any improvements/edits.

Maybe we can get a nice community random dungeon generator going.

  • Tried a new method of creating a dungeon.

Zoomed right out so you can see all the areas. Still bugged though as cut off areas can still be produced but I'm working on it. Once sorted I'll post the cap.

  • In the right hand "Project Bar" there's a folder called Global Variables you can add/edit them from there.

  • Thanks to everyone who has contributed, it has given me some good ideas.

Here is my work in progress - cap to follow when I iron out a few bugs and add some more features.

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1646976/photos/mapgen1.png">

    Normal map - 10 Rooms

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1646976/photos/mapgen2.png">

Same map as above showing the rooms as different coloured regions - Should be useful for placing treasure & monsters.

Just got to sort out the placing of rooms as sometimes you get areas closed off from the other rooms. Add a treasure placement loop, start & exit points, monsters, shaped rooms and make it customizable.

Thanks again to everyone who has posted here

  • I'm guessing.

But I am really slow with art my pixels usually look nothing like what I had in my mind. I have done all the character animations too.

    Am I disqualified?

  • Is that better?

Never used pictures with DropBox so wasn't sure where to put em.

  • Try Construct 3

  • 4 or so hours in and I've finished a mockup

  • I'm going to try and make something for this.

Just my 2 peneth worth but how about next time we make it a weekend or 48hrs or something.

It takes me hours upon hours to make pixels look like the things they should be

  • Thanks for the cap Citnarf I'm going to go through it later and pinch some ideas

I've always wanted to make a proper Roguelike but the map generation has always held me back.

  • Interesting Citnarf.

I have played with random generation in the past. I have a folder full of method and ideas. Unforunately my lack of any Maths skills have held me back when trying to port algorithms I have found on the internet.

My only real success has been a random island generator that used Cellular Automata to produce islands and a basic height map.

Looking forward to seeing the cap and see if is similar to anything I have tried.

  • Hey thanks alot, I think I got it now!

Only thing I don't understand in your .cap is: Global Value "File". What is it for and what does it do in the .cap?

    Thanks alot for the help!

    Regards,

    Mr. Snooley

    Glad it helped.

The global variable was simply for checking that I was getting the correct file path and that it changed accordingly. Sort of a debug thing. If it didn't change to the correct file path or didn't change at all I'd know there was an error somewhere in the events.
