  • Interesting, I think there's a lot more going on than I see at a first glance.

  • Stenky

dop2000's solution sounds like it would work fine... but I was curious how I would tackle that (...)

I grabbed some popcorn and started reading. :D

Great to see AllanR taking time to put this much effort in it. (dop2000, oosyrag, kyatric and newt also offer lots of insight of course)

  • Sorry slightly offtopic, but that looks great! Hopefully you want to do a tutorial some day (in high concept form - to save time).

    Good luck!

  • I have searched the forum and the issue tracker, but could not find anything.

With Scirra's multiplayer object I am broadcasting (reliable, unordered) a message to peers.

Sometimes the message does not arrive on the peer's screen. (I am testing with the new feature - multiple preview screens)

When I reload the project, all is fine.

This sometimes happens. I cannot reproduce this problem.

If I can reproduce it, I can make a case on the issue tracker.

This probably has to do with networking and not the plugin itself?

Does anyone know why this might happen or have any advice? (or is it perhaps a known issue?)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks a lot oosyrag, I will go through this!

And I agree, the manual and tutorials from Scirra are written very well.

  • I have a question about the tutorial entry: construct.net/en/tutorials/multiplayer-tutorial-concepts-579/lag-compensation-8

On the 2nd part of the page it explains -in extreme cases- why sometimes player B gets hit, while it is in cover.

(with both players having a 100 ms delay)

Question 1: The host is "going back in time" for player A to check if there's a hit. (Where was player A 100 ms ago?)

Is it effective to also let the host extrapolate player B's position, to prevent the problem "get hit while actually in cover"? (Where were player A and player B 100 ms ago + guess where player B wants to go in 100 ms)

Or is this case so extreme (big delays?) that my suggesion(/question) does not generate smooth movement?

Question 2: I like reading the concepts of multiplayer. Does anyone know how the concepts of multiplayer in Doom or Quake work, described in a simple way so that a n00b like me can understand it? :)

  • Scirra team, could you perhaps (let somone) film the office while you are working and share a few minutes of how you are having meetings?

    Thanks! :D

  • I have that, but I guess I need to experiment more. :) Thanks!

  • I am looking for advice how to create a joint (physics object) to an object you don't know will exist.

For example, the user can choose: I want to have 7 sprites.

How do I create the action so that it attaches to certain sprite? (because in the action field you have to specifically select which sprite to attach the joint to)

  • The Tomb of Varanus - We've already attracted a publisher for this title. Gamejolt https://gamejolt.com/games/TOV/394354t

    Interesting look!

I tried the GJ site, but it doesn't work (set to private perhaps?).

    Good luck!

  • Making some progress on procedural weapons today. (Sorry its so zoomed)

    Subscribe to Construct videos now

    Looks great.

I would really like to see a post/tutorial how you (conceptually perhaps) did the procedural weapons feature (how many parts did you draw?) and the nice water effect.
