  • Oops...Right one is below..

  • I'm still undecided which program I should use for my next project which I'm eager to start, Construct Classic is perfect for the games I want to make but it doesn't work on many computers (well not on my families/friends computers at least, which matters most). Construct 2 is great, but still seems too early to start anything serious since its lacking so many features. Then there's MMF2 which can run on all the computers I want, but games are much more of a hassle to make in MMF2.

If C2 can do what you want with a few extra events to make up for behaviors, go for that. Otherwise MMF2 isn't too bad compared to plain programming.

  • Thanks Sol =]

  • Heh, I have about 3 chapters to go, but I think they're going to pre-release the chapters that are done with the ebook.

Unfortunately it hasn't been reviewed yet beyond the help Yann is giving me, but again that's because it's still finishing up. I'll see if they can do a few pages to read through.

  • Construct Classic is as powerful as your machine can run + Direct X 9, so it's pretty powerful.

On my machine I tend to find XNA games are slower for me, but on newer hardware I guess you'll find XNA better, especially since it's multiplatform (Xbox, PC, Phone?).

If you want to make an awesome looking game, but aren't expecting it to run on a 10 year old machine/graphics card on max settings, then it's definitely do-able in both XNA and CC. So it's more a question of which you know best/will get the game done faster for you.

  • On contact, set variable "Contact" to 1.

If not overlapping, and Contact = 1, then set it to 0 and change animations.

  • Very cool, only problem is that hearts stopped spawning for me after the 3rd or 4th =/

  • It should be, but I'm not sure if Construct 2 has the Mid string expression.

If it does, try a local variable that increases by 1 every 1/2 second (500ms) and then have your text display as Mid([your string], [local variable], 1).

If it doesn't, then you could do something like storing each letter into a seperate array memory space, and every 1/2 second add the next array item to the text.

  • Edit 28032013: I've uploaded my examples and game source codes from the past few years as well, download it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4714446/Jayjays%20Examples.zip

A while back Newton from PacktPub came on the forums looking for some people to help write a book on CC, I ended up going for it. Having nearly finished it, the book is going up for pre-order. I figured I'll mention it here since they have a sale going on this October, so it's a good time to check it out.

This book is to teach a total beginner the basics of making games in Construct Classic, as well as implement a few more difficult features like level saving/loading/editing.

I don't want to make this an advertisement, so if you're interested in knowing some more about it, you can take a look at the store page.

Thanks to Yann for being my reviewer <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle">

    Edit: It's published now! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle"> - May 19th 2012

Free sample chapter (Chapter 2) is downloadable here

Although the chapter sample is black and white, I can confirm the eBook is in color.

There is also a color sample of a more advanced chapter in the article here

Also, the book is based on Construct Classic r1.2, but the example files will work with the latest Construct Classic R2 release

  • For now you can use DropBox, that's probably the best method of uploading things easily right now.

    This looks awesome <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • There is a wrap behavior that will automatically reposition objects to the other side of the screen when they go out of a layout, but you'd need to make every map object do this and have them move instead of the player for a seamless result.
