  • what do U and V displace do?

I would imagine that they would move the texture itself across the surface of the sprite (rather than displacing the sprite) but I can't test because I'm not on my Construct computer.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Is there a way to make good looking fire without ps? And does it work on any background?

Well the Flame effect is ps 2 only so, I'd guess not with that type of method. I'm sure someone can come up with a decent looking alternative. I've had some ok results with making a second sprite that's exactly the same as the first, only colored with a red and yellow gradient that I place behind the first sprite. It wasn't as good as the ps2 Flame effect, but it looked okay. Of course it would be a pain to make doubles of animated sprites like that, but hey.

And yeah, it works on any background.

  • maybe add some control to what colour you can light an object and a gradient like in the original mmf extension great work also! it seems pretty damn complex to make this.

I was just messing around with different effects on the plasma object to see if I could come up with some natural-looking fire, and hey guess what? The Flame effect works friggin beautifully. I was trying all sorts of things like making the Plasma a mask to cut through to a gradient underneath it and stuff, then I saw Flame and I was all like "how did I not notice that one before?"

    Anyway, here it is:

Bam, instant fire. The Flame effect overrides the color information of the sprite you're pasting, and only goes off of the gradient you specify in the Flame effect itself. I bumped up the Clip Percentage a little to make the edges softer, but other than that it's all default settings.

  • It only happens in Construct. Everything else works fine. I seriously doubt it's my mouse.

  • I've had a strange bug happen to me twice now. The first time I thought it was Windows being stupid, but the second time happened again just a few minutes ago.

What happens is I open Construct by double-clicking a .cap (both times it's been one of David's examples.) Then I run a preview by hitting the button in the IDE. After closing out the preview, I can't select anything in the layout window by left-clicking. It behaves as though I'm middle-mouse clicking, and just drags the layout window around, but without changing the cursor to the 4-way drag cursor. I'm still able to select objects from the object list or click menus and tabs. I can still right-click and open the context menu in the layout, but if I do something like add a new sprite, when it comes time to click and place the sprite it won't register that I'm left-clicking.

Even when I close down Construct and re-open it, it still behaves this way. The only way to get it to go back to normal is to restart my computer.

Like I said, I thought it was a one-time fluke at first, but it's happened twice now, and both times since installing .97 (never happened with any previous versions.)

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Submitted to bugtracker.

  • Awesome. With a few tweaks it makes pretty nice looking smoke, too.

  • That's pretty neat.

I made a minor change to the .cap (click and drag the mouse around):

  • Oh man, didn't you have a backup? Or several?

  • Awesome, thank you David

  • Could someone post an example of how to use the mesh distortion feature? I can't figure out how to work it. No matter what numbers I put in, it just looks like the plain old default sprite (and yeah, I set up the mesh rows/columns in a Start of Layout event).

  • Yep, that did the trick I guess I was just thinking "put the light on the top layer, because lights come from overhead" or something.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Ok, thanks Ash. That solves one problem.

My shadows are still rendering on top of the shadowcaster sprites though. Any suggestions there?
