Bad memories I'd imagine. I have one in my PC at work *shudders*

Yeah, remember all that bitching here on the forum about not being able to use or see PS2 effects a while back? That was me

  • I don't think there's any reason to be paranoid Quazi, I doubt anyone would steal it from you behind your back if you said you were going to use it in your own project.

And if they did, they'd be a big fat jerk

  • He didn't just use MMF, he made stuff for them. He was/is Tigerworks.

    Edit:

And I'm sorry if this thread is inappropriate or you're afraid of it leading to more flaming/drama... go ahead and close it if you think that's for the best. I don't want to cause a ruckus.

  • Hey, that's my old card.

    Ah, memories...

  • Hell yeah faggatron! That's awesome! Good job

    Made some small changes:

    http://www.fileshack.us/get_file.php?id ... eroids.cap

Left/right to turn, up to thrust, space to fire.

Clicking adds more asteroids, the ship's bullets blow them apart.

  • Nice! You nailed the feel of Mega Man's moving and jumping pretty well. And the sprites and tiles look sweet.

The muzzle flare on the buster seems out of place though. It's a little too simple compared to everything else, what with being just one frame that fades out. Maybe add a frame or two of animation to it so that it changes shape and looks a little more dynamic?

I also noticed that if you stand next to a wall and fire into it, every other bullet can pass through the wall. This could cause problems when you start building levels with enemies (Mega Man could cheap-shot enemies through the wall ).

Really nice job so far though, good luck with it (and post more stuff as you make it).

  • I don't mean to rekindle the flames between Scirra and Clickteam or anything. Yes, MMF is the more complete product. If someone were to set out on a big project it would make sense for them to consider MMF over Construct in that regard. I was just surprised about the ease of use thing. Maybe I'm misremembering things but it certainly seems to me that Construct was much easier to start with right off the bat.

As for HWA and physics, I think it's fair to compare those two features on their own merits as long as you concede that Clickteam is still working on theirs. Their phizix object though appears to be as complete as it's going to get. The creator doesn't seem too interested in developing it further.

As for Game Maker, don't get me started

(Though if you want to play some really good Game Maker games, look up Cactus. He's awesome. He's some kind of Game Maker wizard.)

  • This is SO complicated. But... isn't this method going to affects accuracy very badly? Main problem is to keep gravitational map with good resolution.

I'm looking forward to seeing implementation.

Well if I understand it correctly then it's only slightly inaccurate over large distances, like faraway things just move in the general direction they're supposed to, but it gets more accurate up close where it counts.

But yeah I think a 1000px wide grid size is probably way too big to be accurate enough, could probably get away with 100px pretty easily. Hell a 100x grid could conceivably hold nine of those 32x sprites in each cell anyway, having any coarser resolution would be kinda overdoing it for a small demo.

LOL this topic is just killing everyone's brain.

Yeah, that's the fun of it It's a puzzle, man.

  • Wow, that looks really nice. Kind of creepy, in a way. Like it's all silent and you're just floating out there...

How did you end up doing your starfield, by the way? I noticed that if you fly far enough away from the planet then you can see the edge of the top layer of stars.

  • Hmm... if the image manipulator object had "Copy to canvas" and "Copy from canvas" then we could make effects generators in Construct that export a series of .pngs with transparency...

And they'd be fifty bazoolian times better than Explogen because you'd have all the mighty power of Construct at your disposal.

  • David posted an example of family picking a few days ago in Help

But good job on coming up with it on your own. And your example is pretty sweet, too

    Edit:

Ooh, I can make it crash... if I mix them all up in a big pile then start clicking and dragging things out, eventually it will pop up with an error that says "A while condition has reached one million iterations blah blah blah" so apparently it's stuck in an infinite loop. Never seen that one before.

  • Welp, I found a post where the creator of the original game explained how he made the asteroids...

[quote:38lkelbu]Each asteroid affects each other, which is an O(n^2). This should be really slow for 1000 asteroids. Should be 1,000,000 gravity calculations. So... I use a coarse grid and calculate the mass contained in each grid segment. Gravity is calculated accurately for near by asteroids and the grid is used for distant asteroids.

I don't know what that means
